Week 1 - Kent State @ Arizona State
If you're on this board, you already know that year 2 of the Flash Fast era begins at Arizona State on Thursday, August 29, at 10 p.m. Eastern. Catch the game on the PAC12 Network.

As of today (Tuesday) we're 25 point dogs to the Sun Devils. To have a chance at an upset, the defense has to step up big and keep ASU running back Eno Benjamin in check. Benjamin is a horse who logged 300+ carries for over 1600 yards in 2018. He'll likely be a late first or early second round pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Beyond Benjamin, there is the potential for some early season miscues with freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels under center. Daniels was one of the top-rated dual-threat quarterbacks in the class of 2019, but he is still a true freshman in his first college game.

Prediction:

Although at first glance, this is the most winnable of the three road games against major conference teams, it's a bad matchup for us. I don't believe we've improved our run defense enough to stop one of the best RBs in the nation. If we can't stop the run, the pressure comes off the inexperienced QB.

I have no doubt we'll move the ball. We have the pieces in place for an explosive offense this season. How many points that translates into versus a P5 opponent remains to be seen. We may be able to outscore opponents in conference play, but not in this game. I think the score is close at halftime, but ends up lopsided in the end.

Kent State 17
Arizona State 42

Yes, and it will still be hot even with the 7pm local kickoff time.

Here is the link to the ASU vs KSU game notes: https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/k..._notes.pdf

Within the game notes, page 6 shows the depth chart for this game.

Yes it will be about 103 at kickoff. However there is a 1% chance of rain Thursday.

Doubt that we will win, but I would not be surprised to see us do much better than most expect.

We look like previous versions of KSU. At least our uniforms look good.

4 fumbles in the first 8 min isn't going to get it done.

Defense is playing great but they're going to get tired if we can't move - or hold onto - the ball.

Should be warming up at home with the Morgan States and Robert Morrises and getting the students and fans out there to Dix. At least Joel got a nice vacation in Tempe.

Anyone know why Mike Carrigan didn't travel with the team?

This program is a consistent source of depression.

Not sure how anybody expects a program to dig out of a rut when you start out a season with 3 likely big losses in the first four weeks. No home games so you can’t even get the new students to buy into it or the parents and alumni to come back. Then it’s on to conference season, foul weather and midweek games which will keep people from traveling. It’s all just a vicious cycle, but as long as Joel can make a nice trip out of it and rub elbows with his select crew it’s all good. They should schedule more like the basketball team and guarantee themselves so many wins. Or maybe the basketball team could open up a short season on the road at Kansas, Kentucky and Duke. Then again these sacrificial lambs go on the road and get slaughtered for the payday so the other programs don’t have to.
