Folks around here get pretty pumped when we win games in the NIT. Also, if we are using your logic, CUSA is like never having even a chance of making the NCAAT. Best case scenario, you are playing Nebraska in the CIT.

I agree with this. Unless the college FB playoff includes the champs from all ten conferences, there is nothing to play for other than the CUSA championship. UCF went undefeated and still couldn’t be included. G5 is FCS without the one good thing about FCS.

If you don't think the talent in CUSA is substantially higher than CAA, then you honestly, have zero clue. How many players are in the NFL from CUSA versus CAA?

Yeah, this is true.

At the beginning of the 2019 NFL season, CAA (12 team conference) had 30 players in the NFL vs 50 players from the CUSA (14 team conference) in the NFL, data found on the NCAA website.

Dang North Dakota State has 14 players in the NFL right now.

ODU was listed with 5

JMU with 6
Nova with 4
Delaware with 5
Richmond, W&M, Towsend, and Maine with 2-3

The big question is, is the talent difference overall worth the hit in less fan interest and increased travel expenses, plus the Cox anti-ODU bill hit? I will say that as bad as CUSA media is, at least ESPNplus is available. CAA has it even worse these days.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I become that unless the AAC calls. A CAA/A10 affiliation is easily the best option for ODU if Wood could make it happen.

Agreed. If we can’t get into the American, then a CAA football/A10 basketball membership would make me happy.
My one concern about the AAC is that UCF went undefeated and still couldn’t make the “playoff” (like Monarx said above). At least FCS provides an actual attainable route for a championship and isn’t the fraud playoff structure that the FBS has.

A tale of two fanbases: we shouldn't settle for mediocrity in recruiting or coaches, but settling for mediocrity is OK when selecting a conference.

The A10 is far from mediocre. They get 2 bids in their worst year. This year, 4-5 bids is a possibility. Last time CUSA got 2 bids, Memphis was in it and we weren't

LOL. I see. Yeah, I meant the CAA.

This is the crux, IMO: With ODU, a BB-only school has been forced into a FB-first position, and all you grumpy old ***** will be salty until the day you die.

Most of us grumpy old ***** (I'm 40 and not likely dying anytime soon) understand the responsibilities to run a department. Football is hemorrhaging money and now has proven it can't sustain itself during a bad season, not even with a new stadium. How would you propose stopping the bleeding? Football's fate is the CAA. Might as well accept it. Pressure will continue to build from donors and university leadership. This was a Ponzi scheme and was going to topple at some point.

All the pissin and moanin and gnashing teeth will stop as soon as we start winning again. Good times and bad times are all temporary.

I'm 32 but apparently I'm a grump old man according to you. 11 years ago we were a basketball only school. Don't act like we've had football for ages.

LOL. The 4chan avatar should have clued me in that you were younger than I thought.

Never say never, but probably won't happen. Conference revenues in 2016 were 4X what they were in CAA (https://www.dailypress.com/sports/column...ost.html), and football revenue still tops basketball revenue by ~4.5X (roughly $36mm to $8mm), AND football makes more than the next 35 sports combined including basketball.

Basketball isn't in the driver's seat, football is. More money as an overall meh CUSA team than an excellent CAA/A-10, even with no one in the stands.

And that will be fixed to some degree, with whatever coaching changes that are coming so long as it equates to a few more wins each season.

With that, GROMMET OUT! lol Happy Thanksgiving. I'm off to boil a bird.

Lol. Not gonna happen. No matter how much you wish it. It’s clear you have forgotten that the CAA is not the conference it was when we left it.

Well, we made the Bottom 25 Playoff

1. Akron
2. UMass
3. UTEP
4. Old Dominion

I think we win this one.

Good Lord, never thought I would see the program, at any level, sink to this disgusting position. But, if this is what it took to move ODU football beyond the BW era, then so be it. I'm excited for the future, because the bar is set so low that next year 4 wins would represent a improvement of monumental proportions. The new coaching staff will take on a 'hot mess' and can't really do worse.

Just as bad is the fact that over a third of the conference is among the 25 worst teams in football.

This year sucked, as AAC will be looking at potential teams to add and we don't look very good right now.

Perfect storm timing. Our basketball is supposed to be our biggest value, along with football having lots of potential and our strong fanbase. Currently, football sucks, basketball sucks, attendance sucks... and the timing couldn't be worse. I agree that some of this has to be on Wood. Not ready to see him gone yet, but things need to improve significantly in the next year or two. If I were the AAC, I'd probably think UAB is more attractive. Newer, nicer stadium, better football, comparable basketball and a longer history with the other schools in the AAC.

Looks like there were a few teams below us this year. Hopefully we are never on it again.
