8-0 vs. FCS is great.
2-7 vs. P5 is acceptable (let's get #3 next week!)
2-7 vs. G5 is a gigantic disappointment...

I think the correct term here is "expected".

The good news is, we're still ahead of the MAC and CUSA in the conference rankings. If we can have a decent weekend, we can solidify that position for the remainder of the season. If we have a spectacular weekend, we could even jump the MWC... but we'd need to beat Akron, Ohio, North Carolina, UAB, UMass, and SIU.

It would surprise me to jump into the 2nd spot after this weekend , even with a 7-0 record. i would guess for us to make the move into 2nd place, we would need bowl results to be included, and of course be almost flawless.

Guess which G5 league is the only one to avoid an FCS loss two straight years?

Running a little late getting this update posted but with only one OOC game last weekend little has changed. We did go 10-0 as we should every season vs FCS!

Don’t see it happening, but sure would be nice if ULM knocked off #23 Memphis at home Saturday.

So have we pretty much wrapped up non-conference for the regular season other than NMSU and South Carolina?

What a great non-conference year for the conference. Georgia St. beating Army was awesome. Now if App can beat South Carolina and would be really good. Still wish ULM had beaten FSU. That would have helped as well.

RE: Sun Belt vs Non-Conference (2019 edition)
This has been one of the most solid years we've had since the 2013 season when we finished as the #1-ranked G5 conference.

In 2013, the SBC went 13-3 against G5 teams, beat Kentucky and Wake Forest, and went 2-0 in bowl games.

That same year, 6 of 8 Sun Belt teams were bowl eligible. That was a higher percentage of bowl eligible teams than even the SEC.

That was a good year. This one is looking even better.

Sure wish we could have taken SMU. Considering how it turned out we might have been a decent team at the beginning of the year. Then stuff happened. But having that win sure would take a little sting out of this year so far.

I would've liked to get 2 of EMU, Ohio, and SMU instead of 1.
It also would've been nice to get one of Minnesota or FSU as well.

But still a solid year.

RE: Sun Belt vs Non-Conference (2019 edition)
It's probably a no brainer who the best conference was between the SBC, CUSA, and MAC this year.

SBC - 25% vs. P5, 35.7% vs. FBS, 100% vs. FCS
CUSA - 0% vs. P5, 26.3% vs. FBS, 92.3% vs. FCS
MAC - 4.8% vs. P5, 18.9% vs. FBS, 100% vs. FCS

The one glaring negative is we weren't great head to head vs. those leagues. 1-2 vs. CUSA and 2-2 vs. the MAC.

Its still pretty clear who the best of those 3 leagues is though, and the gap between the MWC and SBC is about the same as the gap between the SBC and CUSA/MAC. Hopefully we can keep distancing ourselves from those two and start to approach the MWC in the coming years.

Can someone pull the average ranking of opponent played for all FBS games and make an adjustment? I feel like the Sun Belt schedules consistently higher ranked P5 games leading to less true opportunities to win most years.

My apologies for not updating this thread sooner...been a little busy at work. Our OOC season is winding down with only GS and App left to still play a non-conference foe. Hopefully we will pick up two more OOC wins but as of today we are 20-18 vs OOC opponents!

Georgia Southern's win over NMSU puts us one step closer to closing out the OOC season and guarantees that we will finish with a winning record vs OOC opponents. Only the App St vs South Carolina game remains on our OOC schedules this season.

With App taking care of business at South Carolina yesterday the 2019 OOC season has finally came to a close. Overall the SBC went 22-18 in OOC games including 4 P5 wins! If we keep this up maybe we can start calling ourselves the P7? Congrats to all of the teams that defied pre-season projections to help the SBC over the hump!
