Anyone who is upset by today's game needs to quit watching the money games. We are playing teams on another level. The team we played today was better than Tennessee, and we played better today than we did against Tennessee last year. Clean up some things on offense and we are fine.

Btw: the App State fans were impressive. Their support is why that program is on such a high level.

Teams like SDSU, Nothern Iowa and James Madison obviously did not get the memo.

They were honestly playing worse teams than App State outside of Iowa State.

True but not that much worse.

FCS teams win about 6 to 8 games per year against the FBS. it’s not common and not expected. It’s not like App was beating every FBS they faced either. 85 vs 63 scholarships is the big difference. As the game grinds on the FBS teams have waves of depth to throw at the FCS opponents. It’s like a bigger army overtaking a relatively equally trained but much smaller force. The Bucs went toe to toe for a half with a very good team and did not in my opinion look far inferior. Let’s remember just a few years ago when we were completely overwhelmed and destroyed by middling FCS teams like Chuck South.

Much more objectively and less emotion on here than the ‘old days’. Of course we want to beat App State and the remaining people on the schedule. This App State team is headed for another conference title, unless GA State (he, ha) was a flash in the pan yesterday. I just don’t see Randy Sanders being discouraged — he looks like a legit fighter and will build this team. GO BUCS!

I think there is a misconception about "winning" a game like that. I, like the large majority of fans have no expectation of winning a game against a fine, championship level, FBS team.We are looking at how the team plays and how tough they compete and keep the score respectable. My reaction was we were just blown out like would have happened three years ago and the improvement that was expected was not out there. Yes it is a long season and we can greatly improve and I think we will and hopefully make the play offs again. It was still a great disappointment that we played that way. The next game cannot get here soon enough. Go Bucs!

I count 59 Freshmen on the roster including redshirts. Why so many? Bottom line, are these JMU, NDSU, Northern Iowa, Jax State, etc. level players? If we’re going to play championship ball, obviously recruiting makes up at least 75% of the formula. Can Sanders bring in the talent to win and establish a winning culture like Jerry Moore did for 20 years across the mountain? This new guy over there is coaching Satterfield’s recruits which was a continuation the Jerry Moore magic. Can we now attract the talent to Johnson City to win. With UT down, there might not be another opportunity to grow the program along with a nice fan base.

It is about time to move on to the Shorter game now but I still think we blew an opportunity for a better showing yesterday. We have many players to be proud of. One of the best D lines in the league with a probable NFL player on it. A great defensive back field that should be one of the league's best also. The O line is big and experienced losing only our center. Plus two of the best running backs in the SoCon. I was hoping that this talent would have played a closer game. The game ended up looking like it would have three years ago when we were much worse. The rest of the year I hope we just keep improving and looking better.

I get what you are saying and we should have the mentality that we want to win every game but we have got beat by App plenty of times and this may be their best team ever. Got to just move on. Nothing was learned from this game

RE: Official Game Thread: Appalachian State
I was encouraged by the way we played, especially defensively until we got gassed. App is a really good football team. A lot better than the UT team we played last year and I think we were more competitive than we were versus the Vols. That second quarter PI call against Jeremy Lewis was really bad. He had position and got his head around. The App receiver was actually holding back Lewis. Not that it mattered In the grand scheme of things but App was going to have to settle for a long fg attempt instead of starting the touchdown train. Also, am I crazy or did I actually see Weldon on the sideline dressed out? I didn’t think he was anywhere close to being healthy enough to suit up?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Mitchell starts in week 2.

I just watched the press conference today and was impressed. Quay and Tyree were on it and they just knock me over with how talented they are and what good people they are. Fortunately our team is loaded with players like them and I expect the team to improve greatly as the season progresses. Also, I have to get me a shirt like Coach wore today to wear to the game Saturday!
