and a huge part of the california turnout was based on 2 factors

1) legalizing MJ was on the ballot and
2) they knew long before the polls closed that Trump had likely, but not officially won. Democrats were still aggressively calling for their people to go to the polls while Republicans were aggressively calling for their people to go to the celebration
