Probably my favorite road game GS vs ODU 2012
Both of these offenses were EXPLOSIVE! I see at least 4 guys that made NFL rosters on the field.

Edit: Second favorite road game...forgot about App State 2007.

Yeah it was a good game except for the end result. We didn't even have a decent defense back then and even today its a rare thing for us ODU folks to have a defensive unit that works.

Yeah, but that offense back then could justify the lack a defense.

I really liked ODU's jersey design in this game.

Ugh. Still hurts to watch that defense try to defend the option.

I remember this game. Once we went up by two scores I turned to my friend and said "We've got this in the bag! The worst thing for a TO team is if they get behind! They can't score fast at all". Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

RE: Probably my favorite road game GS vs ODU 2012
This game was one of my favorite to attend in person (only behind Heinicke's record breaking game against UNH and of course the VT upset last year). The atmosphere was electric, the stadium was packed to the gills, ODU was actually dominant (minus the defense). Both 2011 and 2012 games against Georgia Southern, while both came as losses to ODU, were high intensity back and forth games. Our lack of defense was part of the reason the offense was so dominant, many times they had to be to get the win.

I really though 2012 was our year, I thought we could win it all. But that damn triple option got us every single time we faced an opponent who ran it

I loved how clean of a look it was but the jersey and pants were straight up Miami copies, just with a color swap. My favorite thing about that combo was the helmet which we kept using after we changed uniforms, but I think we are permanently moving to the chrome shield helmets (which I'm not opposed to)

Crazy how deep Heinicke was lined up on those shotgun snaps.

I think it’s possible that y’all may have done better against NDSU than we did. Hard to say, but that would have probably been a fun match up also. I know our game against them was heartbreakingly close. I think y’all were definitely in the top 4 teams that year...probably top 3. The other side of that year’s bracket wasn’t anything spectacular.

Good question. The only CUSA schools that regularly schedule Sunbelt schools seem to like the SB western schools.

Not so fast my friend. ODU played App as has Charlotte. We have app scheduled. However, we are also not teams that left the Belt.

This is factual. I need to add an exclusion for those that had no previous affiliation with the Belt...okay, so basically those that are comfortable playing and beating their old belt friends continue to schedule their old belt friends.

Option offense is the destroyer of knees and the eater of dreams. We had a special (albeit critically flawed) product on the field during the Heinicke years, and GaSo withstood our best in consecutive postseasons. Still sad to have left FCS empty-handed but at least we got kicked out the door by a storied program.

NDSU would have beaten us handily. I wouldn't want to play them now, either.

Personally, I wouldn't be too disappointed if we never played another triple option team ever. Or if we did, it was scheduled as the last game of the year. It messes up all that you're practicing for. You have to forget everything you've learned and learn all brand new stuff. And when you're done playing it messes you up for the next game. When Georgia Southern played in the SoCon. Teams had several option teams they could warm up against. We had no one. You just can't practice for it. You can't match the speed.

*(flexbone) option offenses are the destroyer of knees*. I am absolutely amazed that Heinicke came from Lawrenceville and GaState let him slip out of their backyard. Their entire program could be on a different path right now. Y’all may have left FCS empty handed but at least you can say you left near the top (which some cannot).

Both games with Ga So were instant classics. I'm in the camp we should schedule a series.
