Greenland handles its domestic policies.
Denmark basically oversees the foreign and security issues. China's 2016 attempt to put an airport in the country and the potential to do so is a security problem. Certainly could do a deal to take over Greenland's defense and greatly increase economic investment.

Dear Boca Rocket,
We (the United States) already have an air base there, and I'm sure because of that, we also have some kind of defense arrangement with Denmark. This was just another attempt to draw attention away from Trump's policies which are not well thought out, as this one with Greenland.

Plus their leadership say it’s a non starter as well.

When you’re brimming with a deficit and debt, why buy stuff?! The GOP balked at much less investment in domestic government spending to get us out of the Bush record recession before, what changed?! (that was rhetorical)
