Unless the coaches have no way of knowing who is and isn't participating, you can't say anything is "not required".

When my son was a freshman at Western the first thing I asked him to do was to open a HAF account and to buy into the program he was a part of. His response, where's your check book. The next day he bought in with his own money, $100 and upped the amount each year. Now at the age of 28 he matches my donation so we just combined the accounts..more perks.

My opinion on this is if you have some money invested it makes it harder not to buy in. Good ideal but the coach will probably get beat up on it.

I was more than a bit skeptical when I saw the initial article. AD cleared up the miscommunication. I like the idea of educating the student athletes on what it takes to operate an athletic department; and encouraging them to support once their education is done. If they can and want to start while enrolled, all the better. “Mandating” would have been a major blunder!

First off UL pays full COA which equals to $900/mo for on campus athletes and $1900/mo for off campus athletes. The players voted on this and are defending this on Twitter and other social media outlets.

The optics are bad because it was reported and represented as being mandated by Napier, which is not accurate. As the WKU poster said earlier that this is something that has been proven to be beneficial long term for the program and it’s athletes.

LOL. Your local beat reporter stepped in it. I wouldn't be him for all the tea in China today. I suspect this quote was accurate and your coach didn't say it the way it needed to be said. I love you Cajuns and some times people make mistakes. This was a PR nightmare today. You even managed to get the local newspaper to walk it back with no annotation on their web site explaining the mistake. I fault them for that. That's not good journalism.

Well he is more of a local personality than a good journalist. But I’m the end, it’s a good thing for the program. If I can find the Napier presser about the decision I’ll post it here and y’all can get an idea of the intent behind it.
