Just curious if Mike Houston has to have a winning season next time there is one?
How secure is his job if it is a 3rd losing season in a row. The way things are at UTEP, our AD would want him if ECU canned him. He was once Houston's boss plus UTEP loves to hire coaches that have losing records.03-banghead

I don't think the question is would they fire him, but where would they get the money to fire him if they wanted to. Safest job in American right now.

I agree about his job safety. ECU is coming out of a major stadium renovation and according to many local papers has had some serious monetary issues. Vidant Health hospital that is running the ECU school of medicine is in a lawsuit with the UNC board about the executive positions within the hospital. The way I remember it was that it started with a large amount of money (~$40 million) being moved from ECU Physicians to athletics. Football attendance has been down the last couple of years as has student enrollment. Football may have come up a tick with Houston's hiring, but not what it was. He would have to really 01-rivals the bed to get that contract pulled.

His job is safe because #1 he his not Coach Mo. Coach Mo was the worst football coach I have ever seen. And #2. ECU is not his destination job. He wants a P5 job and he knows that if he is not successful at ECU, then a P5 job ain't happening. So far he has meet my expectations his first year. I set them low because I knew what he was coming in to. He had to coach up the mentality and physicality of our team. The previous coach lost them after year one when we loss to JMU and really lost them when NC A&T beat us. Before you can beat teams on the field you have to believe that you can. The 3 years under Coach Mo our team didn't believe that.

It wouldn't make me sad if Charlotte, ECU, and APP were the best teams in the state and could beat any of the ACC chumps.

In a year 1 of a major cultural change, and a big adaption from FCS to the AAC and what it takes to perform in this conference he at least improved us by 1 win.

I think if we have this upcoming season and he improves again, he's probably got till year 4 to get fully turned around.

The 4-5 year nose dive of ECU football is going to take a lot to recover. MH is a proven winning coach at every level he has been at.

RE: Mike Houston on how 49er deal unfolded, "It burn't me...being open and honest." (L)
East Carolina, like many schools that spend tens of millions on athletics annually, was already facing financial problems with a deficit far into the millions entering the 2019-20 fiscal year. The coronavirus has only exacerbated those problems.

ECU athletics director Jon Gilbert addressed the financial issues on Tuesday morning in his letter “From The Helm” that he writes to the Pirate Nation on the school’s official athletics website. Gilbert said the athletic department deficit is expected to grow by at least another $5 million due to the COVID-19 crisis. That number may grow if things continue trending negatively in the months to come

clt asks if the ecu FB seats are purple or gold? If they are gold, we may buy a few thousand from you.,

clt. I would like to personally thank you for being one of the biggest spokesman for ECU. Your devotion to keeping everyone abreast of all things ECU is truly remarkable, and you're not even an alum! We would offer you a stipend for your hard work and research, but as you know we are strapped for cash. But hey you are already working for free! Thanks again for being a champion for ECU.
