I am entering my 26th year teaching high school government and economics. I have been the head tennis coach at the high school for the past 24 years. Getting close to retiring and heading to the country club to teach tennis privately.

RE: Have we ever had a "what do you do" thread?
Worked for a few years in manufacturing in the Florida Panhandle as personnel manager for a couple of mfg plants (back before they started calling that sh*t Human Resources) and came back to Tennessee to work as an Inspector on a large defense department project and worked for a couple of decades in Quality and Safety for a large test laboratory in Alabama working on NASA, DOD, Nuclear Energy projects. Returned to Tennessee and worked in the automotive industry, and now am semi-retired, on occasion doing auditing/inspection/inventory type work primarily in medical and pharmaceutical environments.

In my free time, I'm a fur daddy to a couple of rescues, a 13 year old beagle mix and a blue heeler pup. Doing a little bit of traveling now and hoping to do a lot more in the next few years.

One constant in all this is being a Blue Raider fan. Hold season tickets for football, men and women's basketball, and baseball.

Work in public accounting in Assurance.

Currently doing a tour within the company that’s more akin to business consulting. Implementing data automation, wrangling, visualization, and RPA solutions into what we do.

RE: Have we ever had a "what do you do" thread?
Sr. Business Consultant for a Global company (300,000+ employees). Any time we purchase another company or open a new plant, I consult with the new business on the engineering and production processes that they will be using as we bring them under the umbrella of the company. I mostly do this from my home office, but I also travel sporadically when projects start up or go-live. I've been lucky enough to work on projects all over the world including Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, China, South Korea, India, Algeria, Morocco, Hungary, France, and Germany. I love my job. And I've never met a "people" that I didn't enjoy working with. Not getting to work with my colleagues all over the world will be the hardest part of retirement when it comes in a few short years.05-sosad07-coffee3

Met a pilot this summer who definitely didn’t recommend it. Said he hated how much he missed of his kid growing up, birthdays he missed, sports games, etc. Also, he said the pay isn’t good enough.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I have at the least 15 days off a month. Ya I might be gone for 3/4 days at a time but I’m home a lot more then a 9-5 type of guy. Pay is great and the job affords me flexibility to take a vacation whenever I want without taking time off. The guy you met must be at the regionals or a smaller airline. I was actually talking to my dad who is surgeon and he is jealous of my job if that tells you anything. I’d recommend it to anyone just for the fact that once your seniority grows at an airline you can work minimal days for pretty good money.
