D3 Rowan University Could Go D1
Rowan University could go D1
Quote:The university also plans to expand the programs offered at community colleges on weekends, nights and online. Additionally, some of the school’s sports teams, now in the NCAA Division III, could move to the top division, Houshmand said.
Houshmand is still their, and they also recently hired a new AD who was a head men's basketball coach at Maine and La Salle.

An article from 2013??
And yes, Rowan could go D3, since they are already there.

I changed it to D1 which I meant.
There was an article in 2016 that the officials still saying D1, but they need to upgrade their campus and facilities first.

This is still nothing more than message board chatter until the school puts out an official release on their own websites.

They upgraded their stadium in 2009.
Rowan has a stable, peer geographically compact conference.

You do not read news articles which the school's President talked about D1. That is an official statement from the school.

You know what I read, do you? I don't care what the president said in some sound bite for a newspaper-tv station article; especially one from 2013. If it's not posted on the school's website it is not an official statement from the school. Even then things change; as an example, two years ago a D2 school hired a coach to start a new team at the school but six months later another D2 school hired that coach and the first school never started the new team.

New Jersey politics will never let it happen. The South Jersey Democrat party is at odds with the current Democrat governor and both sides have bigger fish to try. Also, Rutgers has more influence within the legislature than Rowan ever will.

Example: At one point in the last decade, Shepherd had a 20,000 seat stadium in their campus plan. It was gone in 5 years.

You should go to the website and read the President's bio, where he lays out the plans. Sports is not in this
https://sites.rowan.edu/president/biography.html
I looked over their sports and the only logical candidate to play D-I is women's Lacrosse, as that doe snot require every thing else to move up. However that is one of the positions which does not have a full time coach (they have only 5 total). Also they don't have a men's team for Lacrosse.
This school would need to seriously ramp up staff to even explore moving up to D-III.

RE: D3 Rowan University Could Go D1
Yes every college in the New Jersey Athletic Conference COULD go D1. Hell, the whole conference COULD move up and then provide a D1 conference home for UMass, UConn and Liberty football programs. Living here, I can tell you it ain't going to happen. There simply is no money and no desire for any of the schools to make the move. I could see Rowan maybe going D2 one day and moving to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. But, I'd say even that is a long shot.

I would be SHOCKED if any public schools in the Northeast ever elevate to D-I. That doesn't seem like an expenditure that will make anyone in the legislature happy.

Now that all of the SUNY University Centers are, you're right.

Who would be left?
Maine, Vermont, UNH, UMass, UMass-Lowell, UConn, CCSU URI and the big SUNY's are already there.

So you got tired of getting dunked on in another thread, decided to make your own and pollute the board even more?

Well, the school the thread was created about. The rest of the NJAC was mentioned, those are all public northeast schools. I'm sure David has a list somewhere with big chunks of the MASCAC and Little East on it. Southern Connecticut is the only public left in the NE-10 I think.
Heck if you were starting from scratch, Maine's D-I sports would be at Southern Maine and not in Orono, but here we are.
Regardless, it's small privates like Merrimack, or weird "non-profits" like SNHU if you are looking for schools in the Northeast.
