We graduated 30+ on a team that went 11-3. Clark says top to bottom we're better.

Let that sink in for a minute

What is he supposed to say?
And would he ever say we weren’t ?
I’m not sayin we aren’t.
In fact, I’m thinking we are better.
But that great defense we played to last year was quite a recipe.
Just the right amount of pass rush, run defense, and cover to mesh.
We shall see.

There is an old saying about team sports "Don't take change for a dollar"

Basically having one "dollar" (aka a really good player) is more valuable for your team than having "change" (multiple players at the same position who individually are not a Dollar but who collectively are worth a dollar or more)

We lost a lot of Dollars off last years team. This year we dont have as many Dollar players, but more of our team are now 50 cent pieces instead of quarters, quarters instead of dimes etc. Add it all up and you COULD say we are more talented, but only 1 guy can play at a time. Pick a position, say Corner Back. I'd rather have a Dollar on the field 75% of the snaps, a 50 cent piece backing him up for 20% of the snaps and a dime on the last 5% than have a a 50 cent piece on 75% of the snaps, have his backup also be a .50 cent piece or close to it for 20% of the snaps and the third guy be a quarter instead of a dime.

The latter example is what Clark is referring too. We are deeper at nearly every position with fewer nickels and dimes on the roster and more quarters and 50 cent pieces. It remains to be seen if how many of those 50 cent pieces are going to step up and become dollars.

I give FBHC Clark and his staff credit for knowing how many players UAB would need to replace post Boca bowl. They have had two recruiting groups (JUCO in Dec and HS in Feb- plus transfers) to adjust for those losses. Their ability to make the right personnel choices will determine how well the team will play this fall. I am optimistic that UAB will have the right "change" to pay our way this season.
