Sutton Smith????
Just looked at the Steelers box score from last night and 26 players had a tackle or assist. Sutton was not in the box score. Does anyone know if he played? He’s probably on the bubble to begin with so it would have been nice to see something positive. Anyone?

Thanks Pantone——I’ve seen 53 man projected rosters with him and without him. I know he’s also been getting a couple of reps at fullback, which can’t be a good sign as they already have Nix. Almost like they are trying to find a justification of the pick. If it were today, my guess would be practice squad——hoping to see his name pop up next week.

RE: Sutton Smith????
A report from Steelers Wire on August 7 said he was one of several Steelers that left practice due to injuries. Didn't give the nature of the injury, but I suspect that may have had something to do with him not playing.

I spotted him on the sideline in street clothes. It was late 4th quarter, I can’t remember how many minutes were left. I assumed injury is why he did not dress.

I’m fairly confident Sutton will make the active roster. Versatility is More in demand in today’s NFL. Like the Bears moving Tarquan Mizzel to WR. They now have a back up at two spots which afford them an extra guy at another position. Sutton will be a valuable depth guy and special teamer. I think the Steelers drafted him as an athlete.

RE: Sutton Smith????
He was out most of the week with his mid section wrapped. Not dressed for the game. If he doesn't get healthy by game two he will end up on the practice squad. First half of game three is usually for the 1s. May get garbage time 2nd half of game three and time in game 4 to prove himself if healthy. Needs to get on the field if he wants a chance at 53.

Tommylee was just activated late wednesday or thursday. almost no chance for him to get game reps. I would think he would be ready to play game two

Jermaine Kearse's broken leg helps Tommylee's snap prospects. The Lions had a good return game last year with Agnew so that job will be tough.

RE: Sutton Smith????
Looks like Sutton has injured himself right onto to the practice squad. Sat out last practice and Coach Tomlin was quoted as saying Smith is falling behind. I’m guessing if he doesn’t play in the next pre season game and do great he will not make the active roster.

Can’t make the team from the trainers table.

I'm assuming so, but let's hope he's shown enough and is healthy enough to make the practice squad. As a draft pick, you have to think on the positive side, but that's certainly not a given at this point.

Steelers next play Saturday night.

RE: Sutton Smith????
That’s not a good spot to be in for a late-round pick trying to carve out a roster spot, but Smith told me Thursday morning he’s been dealing with an abdominal issue. He said he’ll be held out of the second preseason game, too, and when Tomlin was asked if Smith has fallen behind because of his health, the coach gave a simple but harsh answer: “Yes.”

The most productive pass-rusher in Northern Illinois history isn’t looking at it that way, though. Wednesday, Smith was in uniform and still walking through special teams drills at times, working on his punt protection off to the side but in unison with the players in full pads.

“There’s a lot of stuff I really can’t do right now. … You just don’t want the risk of re-injuring it, really,” Smith said. “I’m still going through plays, just watching a little bit more film on my phone or iPad, and just trying to stay tuned-in, mentally. That’s really the big thing.”

Smith expects to return in time for the final two preseason games, at Tennessee and Carolina, but acknowledged that it’s ultimately up to Tomlin and the training staff.

“We’ll see. It’s all up to their discretion,” said Smith, who first played through his injury for about a week. “I have no idea what their plan is, and I’m just following it, really.”

Naturally, Smith added that “it stinks” to be missing valuable time in his first NFL camp. He never dealt with this injury in college, and in fact, he never missed a game once he made his debut as a redshirt freshman. There’s no denying Smith is undersized in the pros, but he’s still confident he’ll find his niche.

“This year, my role is special teams, and that’s really the thing I want to get on right now and play a lot of,” Smith said. “Just so they know that ‘this guy can cover, this guy can tackle, this guy can play’ and stuff like that. … I think there’s a lot of room to make up in there.”

RE: Sutton Smith????
The practice squad is not the end of the world. He may need a little seasoning anyway since he doesn't easily slot into an NFL position and they weren't sure where they were going to put him anyway.

Sutton sounds good to go and due to other injuries at LB he may get extended time in the next game! Show them what you can do Sutton!
