A small gloat on the Sun Belt Conference 2019 rankings
Noticed that the Orlando Sentinel has posted their predictions for 2019 with team rankings. Now we all know this is at best a crap shoot, and some teams expected to succeed will fail and fall, and some of those with small expectations will exceed and rise. So a second year FBS LU team is rated higher than 60% of the SBC conference. The ones higher than #91 LU:
#52 App St
#60 Troy
#67 Ark St
#82 GaSo

The predicted ratings of six SBC teams are lower than LU. As much as LU was beat down for years by the SBC posters and college admins, it's unique how time seems to even things out. That is fast time evening out for LU, and lingering, sustained mediocrity for the SBC. Oh, and I am very glad that LU did not receive an invite to join SBC as most LU posters here seem to agree. Is there anyone who would want to trade places with LU indy now vs. being a SBC member? And without App St and GaSo, where would the SBC be. That was a good move by the SBC to acquire those two schools, who are likely looking for greener pastures. Could you blame them.

A little gloating here to those rabid, know-it-all, statistic quoting, NCAA rule spewing, SBC fans who absolutely knew that LU would not become FBS, could not create a FBS schedule, could not schedule P5 games, would not have P5 teams visit Williams Stadium, and would fail without any chance of success. And the lower 60%, below LU at #91 are:

91. Liberty (Independent)
92. Louisiana Tech (CUSA)
93. Tulane (AAC)
94. Wyoming (MWC)
95. UAB (CUSA)
96. Miami/Ohio (MAC)
97. Illinois (B1G)
98. Hawaii (MWC)
99. Middle Tennessee (CUSA)
100. Oregon State (PAC)
101. Colorado State (MWC)
102. Eastern Michigan (MAC)
103. Tulsa (AAC)
104. UL-Lafayette (SBC)
105. UNLV (MWC)
106. Western Kentucky (CUSA)
107. UL-Monroe (SBC)
108. Ball State (MAC)
109. Old Dominion (CUSA)
110. Rutgers (B1G)
111. East Carolina (AAC)
112. Kansas (Big 12)
113. New Mexico (MWC)
114. Navy (AAC)
115. Texas State (SBC)
116. Kent State (MAC)
117. Bowling Green (MAC)
118. Charlotte (CUSA)
119. Coastal Carolina (SBC)
120. San José State (MWC)
121. Georgia State (SBC)
122. UTSA (CUSA)
123. Central Michigan (MAC)
124. UMass (Independent)
125. Rice (CUSA)
126. New Mexico State (Independent)
127. Akron (MAC)
128. UConn (AAC)
129. South Alabama (SBC)
130. UTEP (CUSA)

RE: A small gloat on the Sun Belt Conference 2019 rankings
I think we'll be viewed better than the majority of the Sun Belt by the end of the season but most would likely view us as a bottom of the conference team.

http://www.espn.com/college-football/sta...eamratings

ESPN has us at 114 and above only Coastal Carolina (LOL!).

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal...rojections

S&P+ has us at 112 and above Georgia State, Coastal Carolina (LOL!), and South Alabama.

This year, we only play ULL on the road towards the beginning of the season. Beating them at their place would send a statement.

I agree with your overall assessment that we are better off not in the Sun Belt. At the time, I thought it was a good idea as a means to an end to be FBS but our current trajectory is much higher as an independent. Our non-football sports would likely be better in the Sun Belt but we obviously haven't been struggling in the A-SUN. They missed their chance with us.

Just proves no one on CSNBBS knows much of anything. Easy to say no it won’t happen.

My guess is LU is somewhere in that 85 to 100 range. I'll say the Freeze factor will determine that. He should be motivated to win with his tarnished past. There's nothing like winning to have folks forget blemishes and mis deeds. There seems more excitement this year than even last, about winning. Last year everyone was thrilled to be FBS. This year other teams seem to respect LU more. Probably the 6-6 season in 2018 and the Freeze Factor this year.

I am split on the INDY vs conference. I would take a CUSA invite because it would boost the athletic department overall. SBC I probably would still take but I wouldn’t be as excited about it. The stability and having access to more TV revenue would be beneficial. Plus it would guarantee a bowl game and would allow easy access to the NY6 if we were really good.

TV rev from CUSA and SBC is pretty low so that’s a non factor. With the teams we would forced to play it’s not worth it. The NY6 bowl is a good reason to be in any conference but even then what shot do we have to be in it? Not like any team in the CUSA and SBC has ever been.

The SBC and CUSA also have never had an undefeated team (I don’t think either have had a 1 loss team). I think they would have a good shot at the NY6 if someone did that. The tv revenue is still a couple million I think so it is worth something (I’m not really sure of the numbers but I think I read this). We are already “forced” to play at least 8 G5’s right now anyway. Why not get some familiar teams on the schedule?

More more 500k per team. The MAC gets 1 million.
