You really like that UTK owns the series in basketball?

Also, you actually would rather play UT-Chat over UTK? Ok, then...

I want to play them every season forever.

Ex players say TN not a rival to them and TN always got very jacked for the game and they didn’t.

RE: Fulmer Open to UM/UT Series
Despite what some our our chest beaters say, utk is not afraid to play us in football , ever. They are not going to give up a home game to play us. They will do a 2 for 1 if they WERE FORCED To, but RC Johnson gave up all of our leverage in this series when he listened to the head coach at the time (who is long since gone) and a few blow hard fans that proclaimed that a home and home with utk benefited them by allowing them to play here to help with recruiting. Once WE ALLOWED the series to be cancelled utk's AD danced in the streets because they could replace a visit to Memphis with another buy game and rake in cash ..

bottom line they ain't gonna come here and play us unless it is a totally one sided contract.

What can he say? TN don’t mean shite to us given as how they usually aren’t good enough to go to tournament? True rivalries take years to build. Media has tried to build this one. I doubt most Tigers fans would include them in top 5 rivals if asked to name 5.

True rivalries take years to build? Right, I guess we started playing UTK 2 weeks ago....

Something about the thread title makes it seem as though we answer to fat Phil

Would rather play Florida, Georgia, Moo, Vanderbilt, Auburn, Alabama, A&M, LSU or South Carolina.

Let alone Oklahoma and the like.

I might be open to playing the third best team in Tennessee but we should check with the above schools first.

If it were an either or situation, I would play any of those teams over UTK except Vanderbilt.

We played TN one time before 1989. I guess that would account for the lack of rivalry perspective from the explayers I know in from the 80s to 90s. Maybe I’m wrong about this decade.

I didn't say rather play UT-Chatt. I said the same as playing UT-Chatt. See the difference?

I agree with this. A football series helps us, a basketball series helps them. Do both and I'm okay, if they don't want to do football, then F them. It's an easy negotiation. Take it or leave it fat Phil.

In fact, since we are empirically the better football program at this point, it would be a huge favor to them.

Should be fun. Memphis beats UT in basketball no big deal, but those damn hillbillies hate to lose to us in football. So bring on the football series so we can whip dat $EC ass.

And structure the contracts, FB: @Memphis, BB: @UTK, FB: @UTK BB: @Memphis. If UTK wants to do just basketball, tell them it's a complete non-starter.

Anyway, Memphis is in a unique situation, the success of our basketball program likely helps our football scheduling. Conversely, the success of the football program makes scheduling in a vaccuum difficult, I mean who wants to come to the Liberty Bowl to get their ass kicked?

Regardless, we should be driving a hard ass bargain for those schools that want to recruit in our area, especially UTK. Home an home in both football and basketball, I'm good with that, otherwise, go F yourself.

Might have been true a long time ago, but UTK has been better than us for quite some time now...

We should stick to playing UT Chat like the other poster said and stay away from ranked teams.

What are you talking about? I guess you mean basketball - because there is no doubt we have been stronger in football the past few years.

In bb, "might have been true a long time ago"? No, there is no "might have" - and it wasn't that "long ago". And, no, they have not been better than us for a while. Just a season or two.

Totally agree and football should be home and home as basketball. Don’t care for the Nashville game as we would make so much more revenue at home; so no neutral games with UT in basketball. I think neutral level should be made for TV games in basketball.

Im always super confused when fans talk about revenue arrangements for games.. 1) if gate revenue from a single game is a significant driver of financial health then the program should just go ahead and drop to D3; 2) why on earth would a fan care - did i miss where TSF donations got revenue share?

85-90% of Tiger basketball revenue this year is earned on SEASON TICKET sales that require per seat donations. The more excited the season ticket holders (and prospective ones) are the greater the sales are. Excitement is generated by Tigers team expectations (now days measured by social media) and the home schedule. These two things along with recruiting success will drive season ticket sales.

When we play Louisville, Georgetown and Tennessee at home OOC, season tickets sales will be much higher than Alcorn St. Texas SanAntonio and Georgetown.

So you are right in a sense because basketball revenues are all season ticket driven. But normally (see recruiting below) home games against good opponents will earn more revenue than a season like this year where most of our good OOC games are neutral and away pending schedule release.

Athletic office holds off as long as possible to release a weak schedule (and when it doesn’t make a lot of difference because Penny has virtually assured a sellout with the #1 recruiting class in the nation). It’s not just the Grizz that holds up schedule release.

If we can get a H/H in FB & BB with UTK, we should get it. Fan attendance indicates it is a very popular/desired game. It was a great win for us in FB in '96 & we have been competitive even in Knoxville when UTK was playing at a much higher level than now. It would be a competitive series that should be encouraged & it would be an annual barometer of where our program stands. In fact it should be perpetual like UGA & GT. Can't forget the great BB win we had at Knoxville a few years back either when Geron Johnson was awesome.

CBS Sports top college football team in each state.

ARTICLE LINK

Quote:Tennessee -- Memphis: Vanderbilt topped Tennessee at the end of last season to make a bowl game, but that pales in comparison to what's going on at the western edge of the state. Memphis has been to the AAC Championship Game in each of the two seasons and has become one of the highest-profile Group of Five teams in the country. Vanderbilt is in good hands with Derek Mason at the helm and Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt should get the Vols turn around at some point. But until that happens, Tennessee is a Tiger state. -- Sallee

The current count is 14 Tigers in the NFL with a few of those in rookie camps.

When you win and you put people in the NFL, it takes a lot of the glow off that orange.

If the Vols want to win again they need to feed Saban some incriminating information on the Clintons.

The 90's Vols are not walking through that door any time soon. If Pruitt can get the program stabilized (I don't think he can), they will one day be playing for third place. In the (weaker) East.
