I spent that time on 'Mile High Report' defending Paxton against the horrendous handling of him by their coaching staff and fan base. So much so I eventually got banned.

I'm with Stammers on this one. The Bronco's entire organization and fan base can go **** themselves.

Go there right now and they're still denying The Broncos were any part of the problem.

Well, I agree with them. He did not take it seriously, did not focus, did not study hard enough and everytime I saw him play, he looked terrible. Hard to blame the organization for that.

That's fine. I don't. They created a narrative from day one. The fans hated the Broncos trading up for the pick so they took it out on him. Made fun of the way he looked by calling him a giraffe and a pirate before he ever stepped on the field to show what he could do. Everyone in Denver was rooting for Trevor Simeon.

I'm not saying Paxton couldn't of put more time into learning the playbook (although I think some of the stories are over-inflated), but the Denver organization did a terrible job developing him. Elway admitted to it as well.

The guy has rings as a player and GM, seems rather absurd for anyone to be hating on him.

Heck, half of fandom is "hating" on someone. Seems absurd you would find this absurd. I never said anything about his rings - that has nothing to do with my dislike.

Never liked the guy the way he came into the league - demanding a trade from the Colts.
Didn't like the Broncos as a fan.
Didn't think he gave Tebow a fair shot.
Didn't like Manning, so there's that.
Didn't think they handled Lynch correctly.

Out of all the NFL teams, the Broncos are in my bottom two.

Under most circumstances I would agree but he was right on the money about Baltimore in the spring of 1983. They were a complete disaster as an organization, were the worst team in the league by far. Him ending up in Denver was a 1000 times better situation.

Its very possible he NEVER ends up in the HOF if he had gone to Baltimore.

I think in retrospect its hard to argue with that decision the way it worked out.

IIRC, Elway threatened to play pro baseball if he didn’t get his way.

Yep. He was a good enough baseball player to make it a legit threat which gave him even more leverage to demand a trade.

He even played some class A ball for the Yankees in 1982.

Cemented in my head when POS Kubiak didn't play him the last game of the season. **** offensive line, no weapons and they crap on a kid with no experience and barely give him a chance.

Yep. Kubiak didn't want Lynch from the get-go. Elway did it anyways which created a divide between the two of them. Simeon was a Kubiak kind of guy and the deck was stacked against Paxton before he ever got to their practice facility. They said all the right things by saying "we know he needs time to develop", but the reality was they were impatient and expected him to be an overnight success.

Paxton played in an RPO system at Memphis and looks awfully comfortable in Seattle’s RPO system. Denver, during Paxton’s time there, ran a pro set offense with a terrible offensive line. And perhaps Simeon was better suited for it...

If Denver believed Paxton was their guy then they should have geared their offense around his strengths... like Arizona is doing for Kyler Murray. I have a feeling they will regret not doing so.

I am a Paxton Lynch fan but he is not going to replace Russell Wilson. Wilson is the highest-paid QB in the NFL. He is a 6th time pro bowler and started in two Super Bowls, winning one. Let’s just hope Paxton can get the backup job. Go Tigers Go!

I think they will regret it but not because of Paxton. To play a pro set these days you need an elite QB with a skill set that perfectly suited to that system because defenses have they tactics and personnel to nullify any advantage the pro set once had. Of course if you have Brady then it doesn’t matter.

Seattle would be beyond screwed losing Wilson for anything more than one game due to injury.

Hope Lynch gets the backup role and can improve from there, but he is nowhere near starting QB ready.

New York Post writer was on one of the shows and basically said Lynch was really bad in training camp up until the preseason game. Had a bad practice after the game, but then has looked good the rest of the week.
