RE: Nexstar-AT&T dispute
When it was just Direct premerger, it was not that bad. I remember AMC, Weather Channel, Music Channels. Since ATT bought out Direct, it has increased. I feel worse for people on UVerse, their contract for ESPN is coming up.

The average rate for a local channel is over $3 for cable and Satalight to carry. I work for AT&T and for local affiliates makes up $15-$20of the package.

And that is for the ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CW and one PBS. The sub channels are usually priced too high to consider carrying.

The recent CBS deal they wanted almost $8.

I can't believe they would even try to get carriage fee for subs. No one is calling and raising a fit because Comet or Grit isn't on their satellite. Those rely on viewers and most of the ad content is direct action, call and order your tactical sun glasses.

Some of the cable replacement streaming services carry networks like Comet that are on subs.

Four days away from the first Saturday of CFB and still no word on a resolution in the Nexstar-AT&T dispute. 25 markets would miss ABC games on DirecTV/AT&T on the first weekend if no resolution is made.

Nashville, Salt Lake City, Hartford, Harrisburg, Memphis (Tigers game on ABC), Richmond, Albany, Knoxville, Des Moines, Syracuse, Tri-Cities, Evansville, Augusta, Lansing, Midland/Odessa, Sioux City, Panama City, Erie, Binghamton, Billings, Clarksburg, Dothan, Watertown. #Nexstar

Fox would also have many missing markets. They include Hampton Roads, Albuquerque, Honolulu, Roanoke, Springfield, MO, Huntsville, Waco, TX, Colorado Springs, Burlington, Baton Rouge, Ft. Smith-Fayetteville, Youngstown, La Crosse/Eau Claire, Monroe, Rockford, Topeka, Bluefield/Beckley, Utica, Jackson, TN, and Alexandria, LA.

So I guess many in those markets are going to discover how they will get those games via antenna OTA.

Or if they can at all.

Pre-digital where my brother lives you could get PBS, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox. You had to rotate the antenna to do that. Now you can get PBS with an antenna and that's it.

Mobile, AL/Pensacola, FL is missing CBS. People will be upset when they miss SEC Game of the Week. I get it fine OTA, but a lot won't do it.

Depending on the antenna.
If you put the antenna next to the TV it may not work. Ok if by a window but hook it up the cable splitter in the attic or outside will have the best results. Hopefully the sales people are doing their job when talking antennas with customers so they get the proper antenna for their location and the best way to install it.

they didn't tell me anything. neither tv is near a window. You want me hook it up to the line running from the Dish to the house? I have a splitter somewhere still I think.

How long do these things last? isn't nexstar gonna be hurting for money and directv losing lots of customers?

It won’t last much longer. Most of these companies that have the local TV stations still relies on the getting subscribers fees rather than advertising.

As far as the splitter, you probably already have one from the dish installation. In my case, when I canceled my satellite package, I saw that the line from the satellite already had a splitter that went to the cable wiring throughout the house. So I unplugged the satellite cable into the splitter and plugged the antenna. Just use the coax cable from the cable outlet in the wall to plug directly to the TV.
I had the same issues you had, but, this setup worked really well for me.
I know it may be a hassle, but hopefully for you this gets resolved.

When ATSC 3.0 starts up, there should be much better broadcast coverage where having the antenna next to the TV won’t have the same problems along with uncompressed 4K.

It’s been almost 2 months. They’re usually days. Not sure why you think “it won’t last much longer”. I can’t wait to tell DirecTV to go to hell

It all depends on the distance and local terrain and what is between you and the transmitters. I'm less than 20 miles from all of the transmitters in the Little Rock market but I've got a significant ridge between me and one transmitter. Antenna 25 foot off the ground won't pull it in. Antenna dude came out and said it'd take a 35 foot mast at a minimum and he'd suggest 40 to be safe. I can get most of the rest of the LR stations with a flat wall mounted antenna.

all the people I know have directv since we all need sun. ticket. So I'm gonna have to watch my Packers on my 15 inch computer screen on opening night WTF man! bar is no good, to many annoying people and the local bars only have like a bunch of 32 inch or smaller tvs. Lots of Bears fans here in central cali. Probably 49ers, Raiders, Cowboys, Rams, Bears in that order around here.

I'm much luckier.
We have two Nexstar stations in Little Rock. One is an NBC affiliate so football impact is Notre Dame and I rarely watch ND and Sunday Night Football which I do watch but it's a channel I get well with a wall mounted flat antenna. The other station is independent and doesn't come in well with antenna but the only thing I would ever watch on that station is the subchannel carrying Ion and I get Ion on Direct so doesn't matter if that station never comes back. They used to carry the syndicated early ACC game but ACC Network killed that.

Charleston, SC has NBC and CW. I have Amazon Fire TV to watch the SNF games, and Notre Dame isn’t that big here unless they are really good.

All CW has for sports are a few SoCon games that are already on ESPN+ or ESPN3. But the bigger loss is in the markets where CBS is a Nexstar station. Greenville/Spartanburg, Florence/Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, Birmingham all in our region.

Figures, Hubby decided we should pack everybody up and head to Memphis for Labor Day weekend. He and the boys will be at the game. I'll be at IKEA.

Nexstar-AT&T dispute
Hadn’t missed them but I did watch the independent station we had lost tonight as they had high school football and the two teams missed the state record for points in a game by two points. Ended up 84-68
