MyBB MAC--SBC Challenge
12 MAC teams paired with 12 SBC. One home one Away; total 24 games. Starts next season.

This will NOT go well for the SBC--But could help the NET rating for BOTH leagues if the scheduling is done just right.

This is something C-USA should have done! Another swing and miss by the conference office IMO!

(May have been facilitated by espn who owns both)

Yes, I'm quite sure you're tracking about ESPN facilitation. It's going to be a win-win for both conferences with scheduling and media exposure as select games of the challenge should be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

RE: MAC--SBC Challenge
I dont think anyone can call SBC and MAC basketball.....any type of win. You can put the games on espn or ABC or CBS or in the middle of Time Square. No one is going to watch bad basketball between 20 team ranked between 180 and 330 and 4 others not much higher. That's 12 games that are meaningless.....

that end the season with 2 of the teams getting a 16 seed

other than 2 of the teams getting a 16 seed

Akron was #13 seed this past season, Georgia State was a #16 seed.

Yeah, the top of the MAC is way better than the top of the Sun Belt.

CUSA vs the MVC would be my choice. Both would be similar in rankings.

The MAC vs the SBC is good for the SBC though.

RE: MAC--SBC Challenge
Yep, SBC looking for a way to raise their NET-- and it might just work. What do they have to lose?

It does not matter if anybody watches... this is being done as a scheduling strategy to increase conference NET ratings.

My point is-- WHY don't we do something like this? I see no negatives unless you are playing a league several spots lower.

No thanks to a challenge with the SBC or MAC. We should be trying to get one with the A10, Mountain West, or Missouri Valley.

RE: MAC--SBC Challenge
CUSA needs to challenge better/equal conferences no need to challenge conferences below CUSA. SBC or MAC would be less desirable than the Southern Conference.

Exposure on TV is always a good thing. We've seen what the lack of exposure can do to conferences over time.

Excellent point. Saint3333 is right. Can't understand some people here put down being on espn2 for some event. I don't care if there is only 100,000 viewers or 1,000 viewers. Recruits see the espn name; sports center is more likely to play highlights, etc., etc..

Don't let your dislike of another league or posters blind you to the realities.

I think this would be a really cool thing for CUSA if they did it with the SoCon or MVC. A Western based conference like the WCC or even the WAC would be cool too. MVC seems like the perfect matchup, though.

RE: MAC--SBC Challenge
WAC commissioner Brian Thornton proposed something similar for all conferences outside of the P6. Every team would have gotten a home and away against a team of similar ranking. Sounds like the SBC and MAC decided to go their own way.

Out of my own curiosity. How many games does App basketball have on ESPN or ESPN2 this season?

I am not seeing any unless some of the ESPN+ games get picked up by ESPN linear networks as the season progresses. I would assume some of the conference tournament games would make it on something other than ESPN+.

As much as I hate to admit it the SBCs Basketball TV deal is trash. We typically get 2 or 3 conference games on TV. The whole conference that is, not each team individually.

There was an article recently that said that the deal fell through and couldn't get the one for all conferences going in time. So this is probably a result of the fallout as I would imagine both SBC and MAC were leagues that were in favor of the arrangement.

RE: MAC--SBC Challenge
I would love to see an annual round robin tournament with teams from CUSA, A10, MVC, and the MAC. It would be nice if could be towards the end of the year so that you could invite teams that were closest to getting an at large.
