OT - end of the SWC? (Phil Dawson retires)
I saw kicker Phil Dawson retired last week from the NFL. I'm pretty sure he was the last active professional athlete who had played in the SWC (which ended after the 1995-96 season). Unless I'm forgetting someone obvious.

Kicker Matt Bryant went to Baylor. 247 site says he enrolled in Aug 1995 so maybe he was the team the last SWC season.

Wikipedia says he first was at Oregon State before he transferred to Waco. He actually didn't play for Baylor until 1997 and 1998. So no, he wouldn't qualify.

So he might have been on the Baylor team in 1995, but it would appear that would have been his mandatory sit-out year, so he wouldn't have played.

Says here he graduated from Bridge City in 1994. And the wikipedia page says he was at Trinity Valley for 2 years, so the fall of 1996 would have been the earliest he could have been at Baylor (and chances are it was 1997 - went to Oregon State but didn't play there in 1996).

It's kind of like the rite of passage when you're growing old and you are no longer younger than any professional athlete. For years, Jamie Moyer was my go-to guy. And technically I'm not sure Moyer ever officially retired so maybe I haven't hit that milestone yet. I don't think Champion Tour golfers count. Maybe if someone like Vijay Singh wins a PGA Tour event, I can say I'm still younger than an active professional athlete.

On page 173 of Baylor's football "Media Almanac" (i.e. Fact Book), Matt Bryant is listed as having earned letters there in 1997 & 1998.
