RE: Minium Coverage of ODU football Stadium
This thread needs more attention I believe. Minium is covering from dept about the stadium building process.
Its been a wonder following him on Twitter recently regarding the stadium construction.
Part 3
Quote:Call them the unsung heroes of the new Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
A three-year process of designing, planning and executing a complicated, time-sensitive plan to essentially tear down an old stadium...............
He supervised the building of the Ted Constant Center - now known as Chartway Arena at the Constant Center - as well as construction of the University Village, residence halls and athletic facilities.
"This is the toughest project I've ever done," Robichaud said. "The Ted was tough, but I can't imagine any project being more difficult than this one."

If we could do it all over again, I wish we would have cancelled this season, or played somewhere else in order to get a better stadium. Supposedly a lot of the cost was in overtime due to the 9 month turn around. Considering the awful product on the field, in retrospect I wish we had taken a year and a half to build the stadium and been able to get bathrooms and vendors on the upper levels, some escalators and some screens on the concourse areas.

Agree. We rushed the job. Its nice that the sound system works and the view of the field is great. But there were a lot of poor decisions made. In true Wilder fashion, the hype did not match the product.

The scramble for the additional $$ changed the plan. The 'priority club' -- if you have noticed, takes a large chunk of space on the West side -- space enough for additional concession and bathrooms. I thought about that at the last game -- bet there are nice bathrooms in the 'priority club' -- so the last minute sellout was lauded as a wonderful addition, when it actually lessened the product for 'the rest of us' who show up .....

Can anyone confirm that there are restrooms in the club? Seems once they ran plumbing up that high, they could have put some in for the rest of us peasants too. That would probably bode well for future restrooms though, if in fact there is plumbing there.

I can not confirm that the club has restrooms. However, I made my first trip up to the 3rd level concourse this past weekend just to see what was up there - a lot of wasted open space. But while looking around did notice plumbing coming down from the press box and the presidents quite. I'd imagine the plumbing up is behind the door "valve room". While I think the addition of bathrooms on the upper levels wouldn't be extremely difficult, it would just be an expense, and given the current state of the finances (atleast from an outsider looking in) I don't know if will happen anytime soon.
My buddy and I that tailgate together have been developing a list over the past several games of stadium issues, game day experience issues, etc, that we plan to share with the board for comments. And eventually share with ODAF. The rush job to get the stadium done (if that's what you want to call it) just makes things frustrating...

Inspect the concrete on the westside, it's already cracking

Ive been waiting for that history of foreman hall of fame thing on the east side to open. I guess that isn't until next year. Also, Ive about given up hope that they will install the nice lion logo graphics over the entrance on the west side. Its like we bought a nice car when we moved up to FBS and now we cant afford gas or tires for it.
