Fantasy: South Atlantic Football Conference
What are the pros and cons or this idea?

Pros: more P5-P5 games, more P5 CCGs

Cons: could be seen as splitting SEC or ACC, questionable legality (?)

Proposal:

Increase the ACC and SEC to 9-game schedules. Put the main opponents to this idea (UGA-GT, UF-FSU, USC-Clem, plus 2 more teams) into a new South Atlantic Football Conference.

The SEC and ACC would still own the media rights for these 8 teams. They would play the minimum 5 "conference" games plus 4 games against their home conference, but the SAFC division champions (as well as division champs in the 10-team ACC and SEC) would be determined by their full 9-game schedules. The SAFC championship "home" team could alternate between the SEC and ACC divisions.

The choice for the final 2 teams was a little tricky. Lou-UK was considered, though they are far away and not real rivals of the first 6 teams. Tennessee was considered, perhaps paired with VaTech. Auburn and Miami could also be considered for reasons of geography and rivalries with the first 6.

The ACC-Notre Dame games could continue to be "on top of" the conference schedule. Rivalries like Alabama-Auburn or Alabama-Tennessee or VaTech-Virginia or FSU-Miami would still be protected if they were put it separate football conferences.

Why Not?

Theoretically this would increase television revenue (no?) and teams in the new conference would still play conference mates more often than now with the 7-team divisions... but I suppose it is not worth the hassel and these conferences would prefer their autonomy from one another. Any other reasons this would or would not work?
