That's 200 more than were in Sioux Falls! (I don't know that - apologies to Mastodon fans who go to the Summit tourney.)

It's only 2 hours down I-69 from Fr. Wayne to Indy. They might get a good group to head down there - good excuse for a little mini-vacation in Indy.
I had a friend from Indiana who called Indy "the oasis in the desert".

I notice that the Horizon League has a link to their tournament on the header of the main web page. They are pushing it pretty hard.
It's either the tourney or maybe the HL has a 12th member waiting in the wings ??

The Horizon League "tournament" is only the semifinals and finals, the rest is on-campus games. I doubt that you're making realignment decisions based on a few hundred tickets--I don't think Mastodon Nation is going to make the trip to watch four other teams play.

(Northern Kentucky was mad about the tournament contract process, because they were told "no home arena bids", they worked with US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, but somehow the contract went to Farmer's Arena, IUPUI's home court.)

New arena, new market, fits footprint, good consistent program that’s beaten Kentucky.

The AAC could make the rest of D1 very interesting should it decide to backfill UConn in any way, making for some fun for next couple of years until the real fireworks show in about 5-6 years.

Meanwhile, still waiting on Patriot to grab a football member.

I think that Wayne State might still be in talks.

baseball makes it 8.

women's tennis, softball and vplleyball are there as well.

Nah, they’re almost certainly targeting Robert Morris. Bellarmine/USI backfill if someone leaves.

If Summit starts sponsoring football, Wayne State could play football in the MVFC. That is what the schools in Michigan wants before moving up. They do not want to travel to the Dakotas.

Do yourself a favor and just STOP. A Wayne State alum has already told you the school has no desire for D1. You've never been there so it's safe to say he will know more.

Happy for PFW
As a MAC fan and a Fort Wayne transplant I got no real connection to the team but like to see them with some regional rivals that can help love the needle in the market.

What about Utah Valley? They would add a much needed body in baseball and give Denver somewhat of a neighbor.

Very far out of the footprint. UNoCo has a history with other Summit members from their shared time in the NCC, but I doubt Denver would want anything to do with them, and they seem to be happy in the Big Sky. Apart from that there are precious few options.

Utah Valley's overall graduation rate of 42% is why Denver is not very excited about Utah Valley. Same reason DU is not very excited about Northern Colorado - a 46% graduation rate.

In DU's point of view, schools should graduate at at least half the kids who enroll within six years, as most Summit League schools do. Only Omaha and Oral Roberts have yet to meet that 50% rate.

RE: Purdue Fort Wayne to Horizon
NoCo is not leaving the Big Sky. They don't have many students or athletes from the Summit zone (not counting Colorado which is their home state). But they do have a number of athletes from the Pacific Coast, especially California.

But Baseball and Women's Swimming are affiliates in the WAC. Sac State of the Big Sky also has Baseball in the WAC, while Idaho and Southern Utah also have Women's Swimming in the WAC.

Here is the Baseball team home state breakdown:

9 Colorado, 9 Washington (1 went to a Sacramento JuCo), 2 Nevada, 1 each Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Wyoming, Louisiana (!)

That doesn't fit the Summit, but it does fit the Big Sky and WAC.

Basketball: 7 CO, 1 CA, 1 NV, 1 TX, 3 Int'l, ... 1 SD
Football: 53 CO, 14 TX, 9 CA, 5 FL, 3 OK, 2 GA, 2 NC, 1 each (WA, OR, UT, WY, NE, KS, IL, TN)

None of that fits the Summit. It's locals, Texas and California and West, with a good Southern contingent in Football.

There is no reason for NoCo to go Summit. And certainly not over the Big Sky. Baseball show the WAC a better fit based on roster, with the Seattle series probably the most important from a recruiting standpoint.

The Summit should think instead about Augustana and/or starting Football to get out of their baseball problem (SIU-E would also help)

You seemed to have forgotten Purdue Fort Wayne, with their 30% graduation rate. If UVU is playing in the same conference with Denver, it will be in the WAC. They play each other in non-conference games in men's basketball and men's soccer, so I don't see why being in the same conference would be a problem.

I didn't really forget Fort Wayne. The Mastodons are leaving the Summit for the Horizon, so for that reason, I did include them in my 'underperforming graduation rate' Summit teams list.

You have a good point about Utah Valley being on some of Denver's non-league schedules. It's getting harder and harder to find non-league opponents willing to come to Denver at all.

I thought so too and won't have a problem if they do revisit those schools but I'm actually okay at 11 with the addition of Fort Wayne. 12 teams would force the League to go to divisions thus further messing up budding rivalries as some teams will only play once a year.

Also FYI, UIC does have women's soccer.
