I'd assume it'd be for next year- this season too close- remember it's all sports- so for some like Soccer- they have conference games as soon as September.

for as dead as realignment has been, it's been a pretty active summer quite frankly.

Maybe Fort Wayne felt bad about leaving the Summit shorthanded, but now that UMKC is coming back, they feel like they can go. More realistically, does the Summit have an exit fee? If so, maybe they were only willing to waive or reduce it for Fort Wayne once they had another body to replace them.

Their choice of a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond or a CD with a free month of AOL. If it's less than two years notice they also have to add a $10 Applebee's gift card.

so are all of these bball 1st conferences wanting 11 members to be their goal number now? Not 10, not 12.

Based on an authoritative few seconds of Googling, looks like it was last at $1M.

Maybe Western Illinois is next, as the sage NoDak foresaw.

I was thinking Murray St. to the MVC and WIU to replace them in the OVC

Seems reasonable. I don't recall NoDak actually saying where Fort Wayne and WIU would go, just that they would somehow disappear from the Summit/"Great Northern". Even if the MVC takes in Murray State, I don't expect the MVFC is going to want Murray State FB.

Well this certainly tightens the geography for the Summit. If Chi St doesn’t fold it’s athletic program, would the Summit be interested if they got their act together?

Maybe this could pave a way for a WAC/Summit merger now?

That would surprise me. Both conferences are shedding geographic outliers which reduces travel costs. Provided both can remain safely at or above the 7-member minimum I can't think of a good reason for either to prefer a merger to adding another member or two within their respective footprints. In the Summit's case the option to add Augustana is already there. The WAC doesn't have a comparable prospective addition but I think one is more likely to emerge if Chicago State leaves.

Would Horizon add D2 Wayne State, Mich. as another member? Wayne State could play in MVFC. They are an R1 research school by Carnegie.
