Well, when our separate states and/or separate sections, become separate countries, this issue will be resolved.

Dear Chip1RO,
The first part of getting Hitler out of the White House, and Nazis off the streets, is vote him out of office in 2020. The next part of maybe changing the second amendment might be easier.

In sure the founding fathers never experienced a mass shooting in a mall.

Nope I’m sure they didn’t...all they experienced was a horrific, bloody, years long war in which tens of thousands died to free a nation from the tyranny of the British Crown. Let us not forget that the first shot of the American Revolution was fired because of gun control. The British were marching to Concord to confiscate guns, powder, and cannon from the militiamen.

Oh and a fun fact the UK essentially banned civilian ownership of firearms what 30 years ago? Fast forward to 2019 and you can be jailed for a Facebook post.

And speaking of “mass shootings” study the Line of Battle techniques used in 18th century warfare...that’s a mass shooting.

Not the kind of mass shooting I'm talking about. Which you are well aware of.

Of course I’m aware of that. You’re trying to argue (very poorly I’ll say) that since the Founding Fathers never imagined or experienced a modern “mass shooting” that we should change the Bill of Rights. Bunch of issues with that...most I’ve already been over in previous comments, but just for fun:

1.) Technology and times change...fundamental human rights do not.
2.) Founding Fathers fought a long, blood war...they knew what mass violence was.
3.) Mass shootings casualties account for only a tiny fraction of all homicides.
4.) Banning private ownership of firearms is a feel good measure that actually exasperates the problem - see violent crime rates in Mexico and the UK.

I’m working under the premise what you want to ban guns to save lives. So let me ask you this. Medical malpractice causes something like 500,000 deaths a year, many times more than gun homicides. Should we ban doctors? Of course not! That would be foolish. Why? Because the utility of doctors is greater than the risk of malpractice. Guns are the same way. There’s at least 20X more lives saved using guns than taken with guns. Gun control zealots have some serious logical inconsistencies with their arguments...

That’s a great question. Ignorance maybe? Disdain for our founding principles?

I just wish that those supporting such anti America views would go to a country and see the practical application of their beliefs. Take a trip to the UK or Mexico to see what gun control or single payer healthcare is like. Better yet look at the VA right here in America - universal healthcare in practice. Take a trip to Venezuela to see socialism is action.

Dear Fthechips and Chip1RO,
No one is talking about getting rid of the Constitution. There are parts that are not in step with todays society, and need to be changed. Trying to equate medical malpractice, alcohol abuse, deaths caused by automobiles, etc., with the people killed by guns is stupid. People will die from all kinds of things. I think those of us that want reasonable gun regulations like the elimination of assault weapons, giant magazines, to have better laws on seeing if someone is fit to own a weapon.
To do none of these will only guarantee more people being killed unnecessarily.

Dear Ken,

If you’re talking about eliminating a constitutional amendment then you’re kind of “talking about getting rid of the Constitution” at least in part. You are entitled to your opinion about what parts need to be changed, but the truth of the matter is this - the Constitution doesn’t grant rights, it just recognizes pre-existing rights and sets boundaries on what the gov can and cannot regulate. So even absent 2A, you and I have the right to “assault weapons” and “giant magazines.” Same goes for the rest of the Bill of Rights. I would recommend you read The Federalists Papers, they will give you an idea about what the framers were thinking when they crafted the Constitution. Can you elaborate on why equating deaths caused by malpractice, cars, or alcohol is “stupid?” Maybe it’s just stupid because you can’t formulate a logical argument against it. Ken, there are places in this world where you can live in your gun free utopia. Please by all means move to the UK and leave the United States to us freedom loving patriots.

Also, did you not read any of my comments above? I used CDC estimates to clearly demonstrate that 20X people would be killed if you banned guns...talk about people being killed unnecessarily. Ken, why do you want so many people to die?

So why don't we have the right to fully automatic weapons, nuclear weapons, etc?

Dear Chip1RO.
First of all, the Constitution does grant rights, that's why it was written. I've read parts of the Federalist papers, and it's just like quoting the Bible or any other of many documents. You can take any kind of interpretation to fit your argument. The argument comparing malpractice, etc., is stupid because it has nothing to do with gun deaths. As they say that is a straw man argument.
As far as using statistics from the CDC, that is a right wing organization whose objectivity is questionable at best.
Lastly, why do you want to see so many people die (and they will) with your continued adherence to allow people to have any weapon they want, as NIU007 said.

CDC isn't right wing but I'd like to see the actual research paper from the CDC on this topic. I'm pretty sure the Republicans have kept the CDC from even studying this issue so if there's a report I want to see it.

Dear Fthechips,
You need to read or listen to news agencies besides Fox. The CDC has been subjected to pressure from the Trump administration to only respond to what they (Trump) wants them to say. So, yes, if that is happening, then their declarations are to be taken with a grain of salt.

Wow, Ken...your ignorance is showing. Where to start...the Constitution does not grant rights, it does two things: 1.) Recognizes and enshrines pre-existing Rights, and 2.) Sets clear limits for the government.

For instance take the first amendment; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” No where in that statement does it grant a defined right to do anything. But, what it does do is limit the gov and enshrine a pre-existing right. If Congress can make no law abridging freedom of speech while at the same time not explicitly granting a right to speech, then the only logical conclusion is that the right is pre-existing. BTW I can tell you have most certainly not read the Federalists Papers...let’s be real.

As far as my argument comparing malpractice to gun deaths...it’s a comparison, Ken. We’re talking about two things that can save a life or take a life. It’s a valid comparison...still waiting for that well reasoned argument to refute it.

Saying the CDC is right wing is just nonsense...get real man.

Literally all you have to do is google “CDC defensive gun use statistics.”

I believe the study occurred in 2013....under Obama...when the CDC was a left wing group haha

Dear Chip1RO,
Talk about not knowing the Constitution. Your wonderful Second Amendment gives you the right to keep weapons. What about giving the right to women to vote?
What about giving former slaves their freedom? Can't wait for some more you know what to come.
