So we have the 2nd coming of Brett Favre on the roster?

The talk is subdued bc it was not a great camp; not too unexpected being there are so many new faces and lots of guys are learning new systems. Even the returning players have had to learn new systems.
The defense has looked pretty good. The hope is that its not just because they offense has been inconsistent. The OL has done ok. The RBs look really good. QBs have been sporatic, but Smartt is clearly ahead of the rest. Not sure what we have at WR, absolutely need Kumah.
I am very optimistic that our defense will, at least, be competitive for the first time in a long time (save for 2016).
Certainly one of the recent issues has been that the capability of the offense has over been estimated in the Spring and Fall camps due to the deficiencies of the defense. This has led to over-hype and exaggerated expectations.
I agree on the RBs, however, my concern is we are only carrying 5 on the roster, and I am not as optimistic about our OL being able to protect them.
I think that 4-5 games into the season the OL could gel, however injuries could change that dynamic quickly.
Right now what I have "heard":
-The OL is a big concern.
-WR is a concern,
-The QB situation is not that deWeaver is way behind as much as it is that his focus is that of a downfield passer because of his "gifted" arm. That is not what is is the best fit for us right now given the situations with at OL and WR.
I am going to concentrate on the OL when watching the NSU game. No matter how well we do overall as a team, the dominance or lack thereof of the OL will foreshadow the rest of the season.
Davis
Strong
Washington
Geiger
Watson
Gordon
Wicks
I hope we don't have injuries and have to get down there, but there are 7 running backs. 3 of them seem to be pretty strong and then Geiger has looked good at times.
6 on the roster, I didn't count Geiger because I thought he was currently banged up. I could be wrong as I did not "hear" that from a source.
I thought Watson was a WR.
Watson has been playing running back. Not sure if permanent.

Article about all three QBs. Of note is that SW was named a starter on the depth chart.. at WR.
Indeed.
Although many positions are fluid, the SW situation is not a surprise if you had paid attention to this post a few weeks ago by someone who is in a position to know.

QB: Smartt (more accurate and better runner), deWeaver
RB: Davis, Washington, Strong, (Geiger banged up)
WR: Kumah, S. Williams (surprisingly good), Patterson, Spencer, Harvey (weakest group)
TE: Anthony, Cunningham (he is underwhelming so far)
OL: Weaver ©, Kounta (LT), Saldiveri (RT), Barnett (LG), Muller (RG) (group looking pretty good)
DL: Haynes (bandit), Meiser, Ross, K. White/Wilder
LB: Garner, Young
S: Brewton, Richardson, Moss/Scott
CB: Boykin, Ford-Dement, Brocchini, G. Hall (nickel) (strong group)

it is so stupid for SW to be a starter at WR !!!
It may be stupid but it makes a lot of sense. Experience with our program and size.

Just so you understand I was being sarcastic. Most everyone knew when we recruited who we did and seeing what happened last year, SW was going to have to learn a new position.

Geiger's been on scholarship for more than a year now, it just wasn't made public. He tweeked his hamstring a few weeks ago but should be ready to play for VT.

Good to hear about his status First I heard of it was during media day "Former walk-on Matt Geiger earned a scholarship this summer" Was printed in the ODU vs. NSU game notes also.

Keion White just keeps hitting the QB, four sacks in four practices. Not what I expected to see this early in camp for the former TE.
They are not really touching the QB. They get credit for a sack if they get close. A lot of those sacks might not ever really happen. QBs evade in real game situations.
And how do we feel about Keion now?
