When the money runs out teams will gravitate back to their natural rivalries
When the money dries up, and it will, teams will fall back to their natural rivals. Texas/Texas AM, Nebraska/Oklahoma and so forth. This is the natural order of college football and the way things were for many years. I have never believed that chasing the almighty dollar is good for the sport nor good for the schools. A natural realignment will occur and all with the universe will be right again.

If these rivalries were so special they’d be continuing in OOC play.

You do get that the Big 12 is a loveless marriage of convenience that only exists to chase the almighty dollar and try and keep up financially with the conferences in bigger population areas right?

There’s simply no way we’d ever go back to it (we never wanted to be in it to begin with but were blackmailed into it by state politics) when we’re in the conference that fits us like a glove

Possibly once travel cost reductions favor moving in the face of lower media revenue- I don’t think it’s likely at the power conference level anytime soon

The money won't dry up for those two schools.

If college football money ever does dry up, then almost everyone else will be in trouble long before they are.

Also, if finances get really bad for everyone, then bringing back old rivalries that haven't been played in 20-30 years isn't going to be enough to stop the downhill slide.

Thats what Im thinking. The money is not going to "dry up" for the P5. Besides, the P5 conferences are generally pretty reasonably constructed when it comes to geography. There are a few oddities (like WVU in the Big12), but for the most part---the geography of each P5 conference largely makes sense.

The P5 money will dry up when football dies out, and Basketball has shifted to minor leagues fully. It will happen, but we are talking late 2030s or 2040s. Half this forum board will be dead and the remaining will be yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off their lawn and play their virtual reality games somewhere else.

Nebraska in a way moved down in FB from a conference with K-State, OU, OSU, Texas schools to a division with Wisc, Iowa, Illinois, NW.

Quiet acknowledgement their best FB days are behind them.

Nebraska division in Big 12

Nebraska
Kansas State
Kansas
Colorado
Missouri
Iowa State

You commented about the Big 12 as an entire conference but the Big 10 only as the west division? Cherry picking?

Nebraska played Texas 5 times during the regular season in the Big 12. They have played Ohio State 5 times in the Big 10 and are playing again this year.

Nebraska sucked prior to joining the Big 10 and their glory days were in the Big 8, not the Big 12.

Nebraska has their coach now and have been 23, 23 and 18 in recruiting the last 3 years. They are going to be perfectly fine.

Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State. Nebraska is very happy with this since they can't go back to the Big 8 days. With 9 conference games they get some great matchups.

When Nebraska (a team I like very much) does great things in this conference I will be looking for the excuses of how the Big 10 is easy and that's why Nebraska is winning. As sure as the sun will rise every morning, we will have this debate.

Take care and much respect to you!

The ACC to me screwed up with adding ND.
When they played a heavy Big Ten schedule.
Bad years Big ten got no credit good ND teams would make the conference look bad. Big Ten lost either way so does the ACC.

The Big Sky is too spread out because members have to have football.
Summit, C-USA, SBC, and the WAC are also too spread out for their limited revenue.I could see more hybrid football non football and conferences trading schools to save money. Also eliminating expensive non revenue sports for less expensive options.
Men's volleyball and sand volleyball eliminate tennis or baseball add rifle that kind of thing where it makes sense.
Baseball has to early of a start time for non P5 Northern schools waste of resources.

Well Notre Dame is still "Independent" in football. Ohio State is 4-2 against them all time so I'm good with that.

Scratching my head on why I'm even talking about Notre Dame from my previous comments?

It makes no sense at all. Why on earth would A&M (or Missouri or any other SEC team) leave the SEC? If UT was such an important game they can just play it OOC and get the best of both worlds

Look outside of about 65 schools in football and maybe another dozen in hoops, there really ain't no money in college athletics.

The only way a G5 goes broke is if they borrow too much or the school enrollment drops or state funding falls and they have to have money that has gone to athletics to stay afloat academically.

A G5 or FCS might have to cut salaries and struggle a few years with existing contracts but in short order can correct it.

A P5 has much much more tied up in long-term salary contracts and facility debt.

It is more likely that a Texas Tech goes belly up before a Houston or UNT

Generally, yes on facilities, though Colorado State borrowed the money (issued bonds) for its new football stadium, and San Diego State is going to do the same for theirs.

My bad its the ESPN driven perception thing.
If Nebraska gets good that means rest of conference sucks .
Same was true when ND was playing four to five Big Ten schools.
ACC has that now its a no win perception wise.
Nebraska beats good Northwestern and Wisconsin teams well their bad then.
They are not SEC so losing to them makes you look bad.
An SEC school can play nobody out of conference and win a couple close games. Against mid ranked SEC teams their great all of a sudden.

Division by division the Big 10 West is better than the Big 12 North. 2019 Wisconsin, Iowa, and Northwestern are much better than early-2010s Missouri, Colorado, and Kansas State.

It's almost like ESPN has a fat contract with the SEC or something.
