As a db I'm looking at your alignment, which foot is up, I even look to linemen for then sitting light. I also look at personnel, did you move your best wr to te(that happened against utep my sr year).

Eyes never rest. A good receiver knows they have the advantage of exploiting the givens of a defense. Defenders that have deep coverage responsibility don’t want to get beat deep. So, give the illusion of threatening deep on every release. Underneath coverage has help over the top so you can get leverage on them while giving the illusion of looking beyond them. “Leverage” is the art of placing the catch point along an unobstructed ray. Classic example is a curl route. Traditional teaching is to run up, curl in and find the open space between defenders and slide into it and sit between the defenders. That is not very efficient. Best way is to keep pushing the deep coverage back and mirror the underneath coverage. They stay in you stay out. They go out you come in to them. If you do that, you create separation at the catch point. QB will have an unobstructed throwing lane. You basically will create a 22 yard throw along a 15 degree arc for the QB to throw into with the same timing anywhere along that arc. Pretty neat stuff really. And by the way, Leach stole my “make the defender run the hypotenuse” saying. I said it years before he did. You want to see an example of a defense confusing an offense and changing up the underneath looks just watch when Penn State beat Miami for the national championship in 1987. I think Miami threw something like 5 picks.

Well of you want to get technical about it ellis played as true freshman and the only reason he hasn't played more is because of injuries. He's starting right now. I dis a pretty good job with him.

Newsome hasn't logged much time but from what in gathering there's some kind of grudge/favoritism he's battling but groin what I've seen here was one of the few safeties that was always on top of the route and in a position of power. Did pretty good with him.

Tyrae thornton is young but was one of our more solid cbs last year. I only had him for one off season slo my impact was minimal BUT he hasc stated that a lot if what was taught to him by the other two helped him be as good as he was. The other two have exclusively used my techniques after i left them as sophomores at ridge.

Next the guys that I saw with poor footwork weren't any of the kids I coached. Actually in watching games last year my boys footwork was some of the best in the unit.

Finally, obviously you didn't play in college because when you go to college most coaches change everything about how you played in hs. They want you to look like one of their players. It's that ego thing. So a lot of what I taught them has been untaught and it's hurting them. Lucky for us my boys are still finding ways to stay true to their roots.

I was just poking at you, I know that coaches will try to “unteach” old habits in order to put in a system or as you say make their mark on a program.
And you are correct that I never played in college. We were pretty well set at PK with a guy who could hit from at least 2x my range.

Here's one. If you called Nick Saban with an idea how to make his DBs better, I'm betting he would fly you to Tuscaloosa. That's one reason why Nick is where he is and others are where they are.

So, how are the feet of the four who used to play for you? Are they getting coached out of the habits you taught them?

Well Numbers just laid out the plan. Call Saban, get the audience, become an advisor to the Crimson Tide. Maybe then the Rice staff will take his call?

Nah, Rice 3-0 all time vs the Tide. He'd have to go work for a team we don't own
