Big scheduling and massive budget advantages are also impossible for G5's to overcome relative to P5"s. Add to that the vast difference in media coverage and it is almost impossible for a non-P5 team to advance up the athletic hierarchy.

Rankings are not based on a curve, but failure to recognize the inequity in P5/G5 matchups is also not fair.

It's not about making a point, it's about reality. Top teams in the country win home and away... and G5 programs HAVE to do that at places like Wake Forest, Missouri, Oregon State, Georgia Tech, whoever it is that we're facing.

Yeah, everyone understands if Alabama whips us in a money grab game. But we should be beating mid to low range P5s. At least the top teams should be. Gets old having crappy OOC and then cannibalizing each other in conference play so no one gets noticed.

You're making my point for me. The inequity across the board is why G5 can't compete with P5.

And regarding your first point about most of the games being on the road, home field advantage is overrated, overstated, and overvalued these days, as it has almost disappeared in recent years. Even so, football analytics only puts it at about 3 points, and most P5/G5 matchups aren't that close.

Theories as to why the home field advantage has been lessening in recent years include the following...

- Attendance is dropping at most schools
- Home crowds aren't as loud as they used to be because of the attendance woes, and because people aren't as engaged when their noses are in their smart phones
- Even if it is noisy, with teams using hand signals and cue cards these days, the effect isn't as great as it once was
- Video reviews might also be diminishing the "homer" factor
