ETSU is good enough that if App gets off to a shaky start it will show in the final score. I'd say if that's a two-score game or less App is in for a bumpy ride (at least early).

Troy on the other hand should be able to name the score and Chip Lindsey can most likely keep a good bit of what they want to do offensive shrouded from Southern Miss.

If Randy Sanders can find a competent QB in Johnson City I feel they can be extremely good. ETSU was picked 3rd in the SoCon behind Wofford and Furman but for me I think they have the most overall talent in the conference. They just need someone to step up and replace their QB they lost last year.

If Sanders finds a QB I think they have a shot at winning the SoCon again this year and putting a scare in Appalachian State and/or Vanderbilt.

RE: Week 1: Ranking the Games
I think it’s asking a lot for ETSU to stay in this game into the 4th, APPs a legitimate top 30, maybe top 25 team, too much of a gap in talent. If ETSU stays somewhat close it will be because APP helped them out, turnovers, mental mistakes, or maybe just not focused and ready to play. If APP takes them seriously and is ready to play, this games probably over by mid third.

If there is one thing I can respect with App fans it is their humility.

Just stating the facts, and ya, a stAte fan criticizing another fanbase for humility is pretty much calling the kettle black.

If you guys pick up right where you left off, you'd beat ETSU easily.

But all that stuff App fans say about not getting the most coveted guys in February but winning in the fall because you have "App guys" that fit your system and all that - that's going to be put to the test this season. If there's lots of truth to that and Drink is just going to install and run what he knows on offense rather than building schemes around the players (and based on a lot of his interviews it sounds like he's doing a lot of installations) it's not going to be an easy transition and you might find you're not as talented as you thought you were.

Groan if you want to, but GS fans who have at least been around at least since the Paul Johnson days have seen it happen more than once. From all the ups and downs with coaching hires I can tell you the common denominator between the worst coaches is a stubbornness of putting a square peg in the round hole rather than trying to get the most out of the players they had. Drink may be a great OC but that won't make him a wise head coach.

The most interesting question to me is how App's receivers will do when you're not just passing when the defense is making you pass. From what I saw last year App just didn't have the same receiver talent that ULM, Ark State, and Troy had and Sutton being suspended for the first game could just make it all the more interesting. Heck you guys struggled for 2 seasons when you changed from the Power I to the spread in 2003 and got off to a slow start when Satt became head coach and started to take you guys back to being a running offense.

Not trying to start an argument, just giving my opinion. We'll find out in a few weeks. Beat the doors off of ETSU and and I'll have you as my #1 team unless there's a P5 win on the first week.

Drink should be able to lean on the running game until he gets the passing game up to speed, honestly, Drink has been pretty vague on how he plans to run the offense, I do believe he will be less predictable in his play calling than SS.

RE: Week 1: Ranking the Games
Conference members will be more shocked if App wins by 14 than 28 vs ETSU. This isn’t a lack of humility it’s reality. Ark St fans hate we knocked them off the top. Looking forward to you guys stepping up soon.

Could App lose sure, but it would shock everyone here.
