That being said, I do think a shuttle in various spots across the tri-state would be a good idea.

I've raised the point before but I think what UC needs to do to increase attendance is to grow to grow the fan base. They need to take a page from Jeff Berding with FCC and reach out to people in the Greater Cincinnati and sell the product and UC's vision going forward. Berding as I recall was hitting bars and watching soccer with folks before FCC was even in existence. This was the genesis of the various supporters groups such as Die Innenstadt and the Pride, who all organically swelled in numbers.

UC also need to reach outside of 275 as well. We need to sell across the state that UC is the alternative brand to the Buckeyes with its own unique flavor, traditions, and brand. We need to a convoy of fans driving down/up 71 & 75 from other parts of the state on Saturdays in the fall.

FCC did in one single year what UC has never been able to do: Capture the imagination of the casual fan. Before you knew it, FCC fans were chanting "Cincy till I die" for team that had been around less than two years. My gripe has always been that UC focuses on the big donors and ignores the common fan. Being successful on the field is obvious, but it has to go beyond that. There has to be a sense of ownership so people will continue to buy tickets.

We are about a month out from the UCLA game and UC is promoting cheap tickets. That's not a good sign.

FCC did 2 things well and had one thing going for it - saturate the market with marketing, unbelievably cheap tickets and they are a shiny new event.

Cincy market is easy to understand - win or be an event. Winning cures all ills. Those in this market support a winner or want to be at the "event" in town.

With that said, need more marketing and promotion. Reward the diehards / season ticket holders with incentives. Show them you appreciate their endless / long tenured support. Do what you can to capture younger kids. They are the future. Maybe a promotion or two to capture the casual fan, i.e. this market loves bobbleheads or free hats. Heck, the Reds attendance is predicated on giveaways.

No idea, but I can tell you that there is definite potential for the old tunnel that the team used to run out of, making an appearance for a tailgate in Columbus this year. As long as I can keep it from getting shanked by random Buckeye tough-guy.

I am no expert in marketing, but the Reds really have no other option and probably just realize as a small market team that they will only have so many chances at winning per decade (Or whatever timetable they use). So, this is a necessity for them.

If we start 2-0 we won't have to do any of this though.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is the administration first needs to figure out where they want us to be in 5-10 years. If we are ok with up and down then yeah do giveaways, but if we are determined to go bowling 8 out of 10 years then forget all this jazz.

Giveaways are for teams that aren't successful. (Although I'd love actual wearable UC gear...T-shirts and Hats)

Secondly, no one compare FCC to UC. If those big investors just supported UC (a la Houston) instead we wouldn't be in this situation. I understand they want to make money so whatever those donors decided to make an investment instead. Anyways FCC got lucky having such great partners in UC and the City. The media is absolutely nuts about FCC.

4 years of losing seasons and FCC will be empty.

The best way to fill Nippert's seats would be for Mike Brown to pack his bags and move his Bengals to St. Louis or San Diego or even Columbus.

Curious...does anyone know what the actual capacity of Nippert Stadium is on football game days? I am not looking for the "approximately 40,000" number that is crap.

I have been to more fb games at Nippert than I can count...and it does feel good when they announce attendance #'s that approach or meet capacity. However, I have also been to my share of FCC games when the stadium seats are nearly packed, with thousands of more fans roaming the concession and bridge areas....and the announced attendance is only 30,000. Point being, there is no way an extra 10,000 people could possibly fit in the stadium.

I am just curious what the real capacity number might be.

40k was floated before seats were removed for soccer. That number was bogus. I’m guessing actual seats are pretty close to what they were before the renovation, which only added around 2,500 or so.

I don't think it's just seats when the give the 40,000 number. They also include standing room tickets (which they say there are about 2500). My understanding is they lost about 1200 seats during the reno. I'd bet capacity is around 38,000.

RE: Helping Nippert Attendance
I personally would like to see the crowds, no matter the size, be more engaged on a consistent basis. Of course the place will be rocking when UCLA and UCF come visiting, but why can't it be like that when UConn schleps in here?

One thing I will say about the UK's and WVU's of the world, they're clowns but they bring the enthusiasm every week. In pregame warmups, if their team even so much as huddles up... they're cheering.

I hate it when it's about to kickoff and 1) the stands are only half full of what will eventually be a decent crowd and 2) the people that ARE in the stands are acting like the just woke up.

So I propose that UC take that deafening speaker on the scoreboard and put it on a turntable so that 30 minutes before the game they can turn that thing around, aim it at the parking lots and say "THE GAME IS ABOUT TO START. PUT YOUR BEERS DOWN AND GET YOUR ASSES IN HERE !!!!"

Someone had mentioned something similar about having a siren in the tailgating areas that sounds 30mins prior to kickoff. can have something both on and off campus - I know when I'm tailgating it's easy to lose track of time.

Here we go again with Seatgate. And sounds like Notchgate is coming soon.

And the latest is Tailgate...which people will never leave early until this team achieves a major bowl win. Minor league sport in a major league city. Please stop comparing UC to teams from Lexington, Morgantown, or Louisville. And by the way those schools are actually in the P5.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but FC was giving away free tickets on a pretty regular basis when they were new, and they still do it from time to time.

If UC gave away tickets, the enquirer would run it on the front page and DOC would learn to spell bearcats again.

If we want to be in the P5, and we think we are P5 quality, then we have to compare to other P5 and act like P5. Plenty of other programs in pro markets that draw well.

Also: Louisville is half the size of Cincinnati.

As far as Seatgate goes, it’s not all that complicated. Just look at sellout figures pre reno vs. post. Observe what 34,000 looks like when soccer does the counting, and know that the new addition didn’t add more than 2,500 seats (if that) and little SRO. It’s common sense. My guess is around 36,000. Some say 38,000. After soccer seat elimination, FCC says 33,500. Whatever.

While the renovation may not have added a ton of seats, the Club and Suites produce a huge amount of revenue.[/b]

One club seat produces around $2 k per year where one bad seat does 10%

Let's see...

USF - no
Houston - about like us
SMU - hail no
BC - draw "well" ? ... maybe
USC, UCLA - perhaps, but they only recently joined the club again
Pitt - not if you're going to count living, breathing human beings
Miami - the Dolphins don't even draw there
Washington - OK
Temple - LOL
Minnesota - if they're decent, but not regularly

Am I forgetting anyone? I didn't include the proximity cases like Stanford, Arizona St., Colorado, etc.

This is not a new phenomenon. I remember it being similar "way back when". For some reason our stands don't fill up until after kickoff. It is not unique to UC, but I think it is more pronounced here.

As a former band guy, I was used to running down the steps with not many people in the stands. Didn't like it then, don't like it now.

Part of it may be because of the distance to the stadium from parking and tailgates, but I think that is primarily an excuse rather than a reason.

Perhaps some of the tailgate groups might want to form a "procession" of some sort half an hour before the game and head to the stadium together. Might be fun.

Whatever.

Really? I can think of only a very few. Please enumerate them.

Instead of trying to wish away pro sports--WIN YOUR GAMES. Then you don't have to worry about attendance.

As a tailgater, I am not anxious to get to the stadium to pay for 9 dollar beers, so I propose the progressive beer. First quarter beers are 4 dollar, 2nd quarter beets are 6 dollars and the after half time it goes up proportionally. 04-cheers
