How’s this for a playoff tweak?
Disclaimer: I known it will never happen
I’m in favor of keeping the 4 team playoff system because any more will cheapen the value of the bowl games, particularly the NY6. But I would like to see a fairer system that see’s conference champs only, no multiple reps from the same conference.
I don’t like repeat games in the same year and that’s exactly what you get from the Big12 and often times from the Pac12, AAC and MWC. So my solution would be the best team from the Big12 plays the best from the AAC and the best of the Pac12 play the best of the MWC. One or both of the winning teams has a great chance of going into the 4 team playoffs. It’s not a perfect system because of the other 3 conferences and the Independent teams are seemingly shutout, but access into the playoffs become more inclusive than it currently is with this plan.
The other part is that total money earned from a conference championship game would be lost. You are essentially cutting out 2 conference championship games from this scenario. So maybe there can be a makeup or a #2 vs #2 game with a certain bowl tie as a prize.

Hang in there. The season is just a little over three weeks away.

What have you gained? You took the CCG away from the B12 & P12. You put the B12 & P12 in a game against a weaker G5 team (weaker if only because of the G5 label) with no guarantee of a playoff spot.

LOL. Ain't that the truth.
Until then, let's dance...
And, a preview of what it will feel like for most college football fans the morning of August 31st...

Of all the sports in the world, D1A college football is probably the least fair and just. Maybe FIFA is the only organization to rival it.

If they are going to just pick the top 4, bring back a ratings system and ditch the committee. I generally agree though, it should be conference champs
IMO, if you're not picking Conf. Champs only, then get rid of the stupid useless conference championship games. The only conference that has benefitted from them is the SEC. Usually the matchups are atrocious, and don't really match the two best teams in the conference. Alabama has won two natties without having to play an SEC championship.
The system is better than the BCS, but definitely needs more tweeking
