RE: Wrestling 2019-2020
The issue has been recruiting. We are on our 3rd lead assistant coach since 2015. Moore, and then Hill, were primarily responsible for recruiting and given their departures, continuity has been lacking. As a result, kids are hesitant to attend KSU and existing wrestlers don’t finish their time here as a senior. Bast was the ONLY senior from our second best recruiting class to wrestle all 5 years here. The injured wrestlers from last year were a couple of Hill’s best recruits and they were only here for 3 years. We only have 2 seniors this season. You can’t compete with the majority of your roster being 18/19 year olds. Hopefully there aren’t more departures...

Perhaps the end of Kyle’s career.

Perhaps the end of Kyle’s career.

Just saw he was replaced. Injury related or performance? I know he wasn't doing that well.

Won today 25-15 but it took pins at 197 and 285 to pull it off. Beating SIUE shouldn’t be that difficult.

Graduate senior transfer Kyle Conel will also not return to the lineup, after suffering a shoulder injury against Penn prior to winter break. According to Sanderson, it was the same shoulder he recently had repaired, and the former All-American is scheduled for surgery this week.

Conel will be replaced at 197 pounds by fellow sixth-year senior Shakur Rasheed, who sat out the first half of the season as he recovered from offseason ACL surgery. Sanderson said former All-American Rasheed has been medically cleared and will be good to go for this weekend’s duals against Illinois and Northwestern.

“Injuries are unfortunate, but it’s life, it’s sports and those things happen,” Sanderson said. “It’s just all preparation for the bigger picture here.”

Problems persist at 141, 157, 165, and 184. Kudos to Berthold for his recent performances at 285. He showed some fire yesterday and he finished 2nd at the CSU open.

It was quite entertaining. Spencer even shared some “pleasantries” with a reserve from SIUE after the match.

Could the Ohio match have started at a worse weight class than 141? After 4 matches we were down 17-0. Oh well.

It’s Rooney and McCracken (sometimes 1 or 2 others) versus the world. Thankfully, SIEU is even worse...

You forgot McNally (or maybe you meant McNally instead of McCracken). Another pounding today against Missouri. Rooney and McNally won by pin and 8 losses. Heavyweight went into OT but the others were either lopsided or close in score only.

Yes, McNally. Just him and Rooney, for the most part. Komara wrestled well against #4, but we should have won at 197 and 285. The other matches weren’t competitive.

RE: Wrestling 2019-2020
Good news on the open tournament front for those who are redshirting this season from this past weekend on the lower weights front.

Purple Raider Open Results

125 - @JakeFerri 3rd
133 - @BrendonFenton_ 1st
141 - @Blake_Earl 5th
184 - @joe_andrassy 5th
197 - Ryan Boyle 3rd

Ferri will be the starter @ 125lbs and Brendon Fenton (transfer from Pitt, who wrestled for Elyria High School) will be the starter @ 133lbs next season. Mutschler @ 141lbs, Komara @ 149lbs, Chrisman @ 157lbs, Limongi @ 165lbs?, McNally @ 174lbs, 184lbs?, McCracken @ 197lbs, & HWT will be TBD as I think they are bringing in 2 in this recruiting class.

Definitely need to find a good 165lbs & 184lbs.
