Wilder has to be gone if this season bombs. (I think it will)

I'm not going to pick teams but I will say....
if you dont have a top 3 defense (points scored) you most likely not going to win the CUSA championship. A week or two ago I was scanning past seasons I believe there was only 1 champion that wasnt top 3 since 2002. I believe they were 4th. Usually that means giving up under 24 ppg

RE: CUSA Football Predictions 2019
FIU, Marshall, USM, and UNT look like obvious contenders.
La Tech and FAU have both good and bad potential. Possibly fragile if injuries pile-up.
UAB's graduation losses put them here. They'll show their youth.
WKU and Charlotte have new coaches, so new hope, but standard turnover challenges of new systems, new coaches, and attrition.
MTSU won the East division, but graduated Stockstill and many others. Surprised Rick didn't retire. Brutal schedule. Could start 1-7.
ODU graduated a ton as well. Wilder has to stop the skid or he'll be gone.
UTSA got blown out in 5 games last year. No offense to speak of. How did Narcisse look this Spring? Wilson has a lot riding on him.
Rice and UTEP have had a year of rebuilding. They have a long way to go.

I think ODU poop cans Wilder as soon as they’re out of bowl contention.

I agree with most here that ODU is going to really struggle this season. I disagree about firing Wilder. Last season was by far his worst team and they still beat #13 VT. I think he should get a couple more seasons to try and right the ship barring a 1-11 season. We aren't paying top dollar for coaches. Until that problem gets resolved, we have to reset our expectations. You get what you pay for.

Couple seasons? No way. I think next year is the last year of his contract? He should not be renewed unless he pulls something out of his ass and should get bought out at the end of this season if he screws the pooch. I like Wilder, he's built our program from scratch but he's got to produce. Interest is waning. We need new energy and new blood.
I'd like to up our payscale as well. I think ODU has shown that we will pay coaches that produce results but the starting pay isn't going to attract big names so we need to find the up and comer and hope they got what it takes. It's still an attractive job for assistants and FCS coaches that want to move up the ladder.

You feeling okay? He had one winning season since we moved to FBS and other than an occasional unexpected win its been a disaster and if it really comes to fans in the seats paying money vs Wilder its an obvious choice for the Admin and i hope they make the right choice. Again we might not pay top dollar but we can for a good coach who can produce and our (revenue+donations) for FB more than impacts that decision and in the end if it comes to that add'l 300 to 400k vs losing that revenue its is very easy to see what will happen.

You read it here. ODU will exceed preseason expectaions and predictions and Bobby Wilder will be back next year -- and likely for years to come.
Cheers!

RE: CUSA Football Predictions 2019
FWIW, the Amway Coaches Preseason Poll only has 1 C-USA team receiving votes. UNT received 3 votes, so at least 3 coaches think we have a chance. Our season could either be really great (finish top 25) or if things go off of the rails as low as 7-5. We’ll just have to see how the season goes to really know. I would love to have Marshall back at Apogee though after what happened the last time we played lol.

I didn't watch the Spring game, but from what I know, Frank Harris is most likely the projected starter at this time. He's the guy we had high hopes for each of the last 2 seasons, but then tore his ACL both years before the seasons even got under way, and hasn't yet played a down.
How our offensive line does this year would be the 2nd major question mark. They were very young last year, and struggled greatly. If they show enough improvement, and Harris can stay healthy, I think we'll finish with either 5 or 6 wins for the season. I like what I've seen so far of our new OC.

Yes it is. It'll probably be the game that settles the East. I hope it is anyway. This conference needs meaningful matchups. Rivalries!

We always seem to find a way to crap the bed in a game or two. NT with Fine will be tough. USM looks to have a rugged defense. FIU seems to have the pieces to make a run.
I think the schedule favors us but you never know. Several teams have a legit shot.

Well I'm always optimistic in the preseason so I'll drink to that.

Worst case scenario: we beat UVA and Va Tech but finish with fewer than 6 wins and do not go to a bowl. I'm in the camp of 6 wins or bust, but it may be difficult to fire him if he sweeps the ACC teams on the schedule, as very very unlikely as that is to happen.

I'd kinda be ok with that. Hell if he beats one of the two and ends up under 6 wins I'd be ok giving him another year. Not that It'd be best for the program but it'd be worth it.

The virginia tech win last year brought more exposure to our program than possibly ever, so maybe you are right. Too bad they wound up sucking the rest of the season.

Both of their dreams end when they come visiting Boca Raton.

If we take a step back it wont be because of Lambert. It will because we lost so much talent and starters from last year. Honestly I do think our D will take a step back. But I feel our offense will have the ability to bail us out.
