Why are we playing so many D-III schools? Man, we must really suck.
Props to Hawk on getting the MSU deal done.

Props to (EDIT)”COACH KELLEY” on getting the MSU deal done.
Alma is D-3 & Aquinas is NAIA.
Any D3s I missed?

We have a bad team, Hawkins needs to win to save his job. Hawk knows that.

Unless I missed something, he's entering his final contracted season, correct?

Certainly a different team than last year. 6 of the 14 players on team did not play last year. 4 of them were not even here last year.
Return of Brandon Johnson alone makes this a MUCH better team than last year

RE: WMU Men’s Basketball 2019-20 Non-Conference Schedule
it's not a great home schedule but it's a fun overall schedule for the players and staff. and it's a schedule that will pay some bills. the early road games to Mississippi and OK St will be exciting. there's a nice little tourney in orlando. there's a trip to NYC. and it closes with a game at MSU. obviously, alma is an overmatched boring opponent. however, it's the midweek game between ole miss and ok st and part of a stretch of 4 games in 8 days. you want your team to get a win in between those tough games and have some confidence heading into the orlando tourney. the aquinas game is when school's out and the team needs to stay tuned up before the christmas break. speaking of which it's a schedule with both of the long holiday weekends off. so players and staff can spend time with family. whoever makes your schedule knows what they are doing. there's enough challenges on the schedule that if the team gels and wins a couple big games there's a resume and ranking for post season.

It's no different then what it usually is. Only 2 Saturday home games kind of stinks tho: They are Kalamazoo College and Youngstown St.

As a North Dakota fan, it is frustrating seeing teams like you struggle to find games, while we will likely have a much worse schedule once it is released. I was always hoping that our relationship in the NCHC would help with scheduling in other sports, but that hasn't transpired. Pretty sure UND charters their hockey team out when they play you guys in hockey - not sure why our basketball program couldn't hop on the same flight and play you guys in basketball the same weekend, and vice-versa. Youngstown State is @ WMU the same days UND hockey travels to WMU. The basketball game could have been at the same time as Youngstown, and the Youngstown game could have been scheduled some other time.

I don't think I ever really see that kind of scheduling you're referring to: Where Team X plays at Team Y in Sport 1, so they also play Sport 2 the same day. You don't even see this kind of scheduling between Conference mates. It's really bizarre when it comes to cost savings not to do that.

They have to schedule home games. They can't get teams to come to Kalamazoo. Therefore they schedule these games. They are not the only ones doing it.

I'm guessing K is an exhibition, so just 2.

K-College is exhibition game.
Aquinas is NAIA DII not NCAA D3 like Alma.
NAIA D1 & DII programs offer athletic scholarships.
NCAA D3 does not.

I'm not sure if there are financial disincentives working against this.
But it would be nice from a fan's perspective to (at least) have some D2 opponents (GVSU, Wayne, Ferris State, etc).

It'd definitely be financial reasons.
BTW Season starts soon, people.
