I actually predict that after Hopson wins CUSA this year that he'll get poached by a school who can pay him 4-5 times the amount he's making at USM...like Maryland, Indiana, Arizona, Colorado, Ole Miss, Arkansas...

Nobody, and I mean nobody was saying that about Bra_for_. Most wanted him gone after year one. People didn't like Fedora because he was too "flashy," wore hair product, ladies around town thought he was easy on the eyes and above all...immediately followed JB and just kept right on winning.

Yes, people were very vocal about wanting Bradford gone. They were also very vocal about wanting FEDORA gone.

I think you're missing my point which is this: I remember MANY people saying over and over after his 3rd year that Fedora was not the answer because he doesn't have the balls to fire his friends/weak links of his staff (Bradford) for the betterment of the program..."Fedora can't win CUSA", "Fedora doesn't care about defense", "we need to fire Fedora", "we need to bring Bower back". etc. So many people were pushing this towards the end of his 3rd season (2010). Remember, at that time in 2010 we just finished w/ another measly 5-3 conference record with a 44-43 loss at home to ECU, a 50-49 OT loss at home to UAB, a 56-50 loss @ Tulsa, and a 31-28 loss to Louisville in the Beef 'o Brady Bowl after leading in that game 14-0 in the first half. Just like the heat Fedora was getting at the end of his 3rd year, Hopson is feeling the heat at the end of his 3rd year and just like Fedora did, Hopson has made the necessary staff changes...which is why I predict (just like Fedora did) Hopson will coach us to a 10+ win season, CUSA championship, t25 ranking, and he'll probably get swooped up by a P5 school.
I don't think Hop has what it takes.. I gave him his due time and I haven't been impressed.. I hope like Hell I'm eating my words a month into it.

But I doubt Hop goes P5.. Again, could be wrong.

Chip Lindsey couldn't hang 70 on USM using Auburn's offense, what makes you think he could with Troy's 03-shhhh

Probably could've if Malzahn would've kept his hands off the playcalling.

It was under Lindsey that Auburn became only the eighth team in SEC history to rush and pass for 3,000 in a season.

In all honesty, I think there's some truth in what you said about the play calling.. But I also think that they had too wishy of a washy QB and an ineffective OL.

You took a jab.. I took one back.. Have a good'en bud. 04-cheers

No. I think Hop was a good hire in the predicament we were handed. I think he’s over stayed. There’s been too many games we should’ve won. If I’m wrong about this season I’ll be first in line for my crow and humble pie.

I think he's a very good DC, impersonating a head coach. But I think he would be more than willing to let a good OC run the offense the way the OC wanted to. I think that was his goal when he tried to hire Art Briles. I dont know if Hopson's will do that with the hire he made

If something were to happen and it came down to Fedora or Hopson.. As much as I think Hop has overstayed, I'd pick him. Fedora, while he delivered winning seasons and got us a championship his last season, screwed our guys in the bowl game with the whole Hawaii Bowl fiasco.

If there was a chance and Monk was back on the table, I'd take Monk. I hate that he left abruptly, but it was an opportunity to continue to follow his dream.. Could you imagine what would've happened if Monk would've stayed another season or two, and then gave his notice at the end of a season?

Plus I'm not sure if Hop does it, but I respect what he did at the end of every season for the seniors on the team.

We should be somewhat better this year, but so will others. Hopefully the player additions as well as new coaches on offense will make a big difference.

The o line was the glaring problem last year from the first game against Jackson State. That coaching problem was addressed. The OC was very weak also. That problem was addressed but not necessarily with the hire he made. Most likely the answer was already on staff.

We will be better this year, but we also only have 5 home games. It will be tough playing 7 away games against very good opponents.

I am not sure you can level all 7 as “very good”, but no doubt road game are tougher, especially SEC road games with their bought and paid for officials...

This team played only 3 home games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1990_South...tball_team

UTEP, Rice, and UTSA will be awful. La Tech has JMar. WKU visits the Rock finally. That's 5 conference wins. UNT, UAB, and FAU have the talent to beat us, but 2 of those 3 are at home. The FAU game could very well be a trap game.

Troy beat us last time because of 5 turnovers. They're the top of the Sunbelt, but with a new familiar coach. Sandwiched between State and Bama. We certainly won't be intimidated. A hurricane that weekend would somehow not be shocking. LOL!

No one gives us a shot versus State or Bama. Bama I totally understand, obviously, but State doesn't impress me, especially their offense. Their great defense from last year graduated a lot and they lost their DC, but they'll have talent. I really like our chances here.

8 wins seems safe, plus or minus luck, wherever that may fall. I really like my defense and my offense has big potential with a new OC.

I guess there's a first time for every thing. But I'm not so sure this will be that year. It took a complete , 100% idiot of a coach for ODU to get their first. That idiot was paid 1.2 million to pack his bags. If Coach Helton is 3/5 the coach as Brohm I have a feeling you are going to be very sad the Saturday before Thanksgiving

Hopson has a done a lot to build the team back up with high school students and only getting a few JC guys a year. Given the scholarship hole he came into (due to Monken reaching deeper into the JC ranks to fill holes) and the recruiting improvements we've seen each year, I think he's a legit HC, but far from an offensive guru. He needs a solid OC for sure.

Hop also has a tendency to sign players whose best offer is McNeese, so I'm not sure he's doing so great recruiting those high school players. At least Fedora was taking players from high profile programs.

Fedora's first 3 signing classes ('08, '09, '10) = 22-17 overall record (13-11 conference record)
Hopson's first 3 signing classes ('16, '17, '18) = 21-16 overall record (15-9 conference record)

Fedora changed his DC after year 3 and went 12-2 in year 4.
Hopson has changed his OC after year 3...what will Hopson's team do in year 4?

It remains to be seen...but I predict similar to how Fedora's team did in year 4: double digit wins, a CUSA champ, T25 ranking, and a gig at a P5 school where he's making 5-6 times that of his salary at USM.
