A first for me
We are planning to go to a game of the Lincoln (NE) Salt Dogs tonight. They are an independent minor league team in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. Basically, the teams run in a thin north-south band from Winnipeg to the DFW area, and as far east as the Chicago area. Their teams are not affiliated with any major league team, thus the "independent" part of the name. The Salt Dogs play in the Univ of Nebraska stadium. Basically they recruit college, ex-major and ex-minor league players, or players who were not drafted and want another chance to be seen by major league scouts.

I have been to a number of minor league games, but never one that was not affiliated with a major league team. I doubt anyone is getting rich off the team, but it basically is the only thing going on in the Lincoln area after the college sports seasons close down.

So, I am going to put on my Omaha Mavericks T-shirt (always support the "at" teams) and head for the old ballpark tonight.
