Thanks for the video. Lots of info. The football team reports in to campus today and Camp Higher Ground this weekend. The team/AD/ or the school could have put this info out sooner for us. Fans like to know.
We've seen some excellent head coaches at UC the past couple of decades. Watching this video, I get the sense that Fickell is more than that in some ways--a program builder. The depth chart at key positions has never looked better and he continues to recruit more high level players.
All of us--and those 2,100 new season ticket holders are in for some exciting football at Nippert this season.

He seems to have a vision and plan for building the program, not just for building his next career move. He could go at any time, but it's refreshing.

I'm surprised they haven't decided to try to find a place for Cam Jones outside of the QB room...he's a guy who I think could turn into something as a TE (I said a few times that he reminded me a lot of HS Travis Kelce), and now with Prater in the fold for next year and having Ridder and Bryant for another two years, I just wouldn't want him to get lost in the fold.

I think that will play itself out in camp. Wouldn't be surprised to see him eventually playing with a hand on the ground. Speaking of QB the guy I am intrigued about is Michael Lindauer. Kid is a great athlete, excelling in football, basketball and baseball. Obviously Des is the guy and Prater is the heir apparent, but I think in the next couple seasons he might turn out to be a gem.

Lindauer was a great high school baseball player too. A guy I work with has been very involved in the IN high school football scene in recent years (his son was an excellent small school player) and raved about Lindauer. He believes UC got a gem there--smart kid and great athlete. We can never have too many of those on the roster and he may well compete for the starting job in the coming years.

After looking through all of his stats from baseball for the last few years, I'm surprised Googs hasn't reached out to see if he'd be interested in some double duty. His pitching and hitting numbers are pretty out of this world for a high schooler.

Damn, totally forgot about Lindauer. So that means Des, Bryant, Lindauer & Jones right now. Then add in Prater next year. Yikes. Definitely see Jones switching positions. Just hope guys stay patient. Lots can happen over the course of a 4 (more likely 5) year stint.

Me too. Our baseball staff has their finger on the pulse of Indiana high school baseball recruiting (we have gotten quite a few guys out of the Hoosier State the past couple of years) , so I would not be surprised if they are very familiar with him.

Seems to me the quality of our problems has improved dramatically in this scenario. It will be a challenge for the coaching staff--but a better one than having to convert other position players, seek graduate transfers or identify walk-ons to fill the QB room when injuries occur.
I've always been amazed watching programs such as Alabama suffer a key injury and simply "plug and play". Even UCF was able to continue winning last year up until their bowl game with a sudden change at QB. I think when teams are winning a lot, there is a strong incentive to be part of that.

I believe coach spoke to that when Jones signed on. IIRC he told Jones he liked him better at another position. But if Jones wanted to compete for the QB position, he'd let him do that. I expect him to eventually find another spot on the roster.

The baseball staff has worn out a path to Fick’s office trying to get him to share...

That definitely makes sense...
For those unaware, Lindauer played SS and Pitcher, and ended up all-league in both.
Hit a slash line of .378/.469/.537 with 24 steals and had 1 error all year
Went 5-0 with a 0.19 ERA (one earned run allowed all season) with a 41/6 SO/BB ratio in 47.1 innings

I'm disappointed in the coaches if they won't let Lindauer work something out at least for his first year which looks like a lock to be a redshirt. I doubt they could even find even semi-valuable time for him to play QB this year in up to 4 games given the guys ahead of him. Seems like there ought to be room to compromise if indeed Lindauer wants to give both sports a shot for awhile.

Sounds great in theory, but because Lindauer was a star three sport athlete he has never fully focused on being a QB. He has a lot to learn about playing the position still ahead of him and splitting time with baseball at this point would slow that development...

Jones is listed as 6'8" 270 by UC.
That would make him tied for the tallest QB in NFL history.
He would also be the 2nd heaviest QB in NFL history, after recently deceased Ft. Thomas native Jared Lorenzen.
