I thought this MLB note was interesting. Here are the longest droughts in MLB franchise history in regards to making the World Series.

(1) Montreal/Washington (1969-2019) - 50 seasons
(2) Senators/Rangers (1961-2009) - 49 seasons
(T3) Seattle Mariners (1977-present); Houston Astros (1962-2004) - 43 seasons

ETA - technically Seattle should be #3 by themselves because 44 is a certainty for them?

White Sox?

Looks like this list is time from team founding to first World Series title. Both Chicago teams spent longer between titles than any of these teams have existed to date.

White Sox?

The article on MLB.com noted the longest droughts for franchises before playing in their first World Series and longest such droughts for teams that had moved to a new city. It only took the White Sox six seasons since the inauguration of the American League to win their first pennant (and World Series). The Nationals played 50 seasons (36 as the Montreal Expos) before they won a pennant, although arguably they could've won it in 1994 had it not been for the players' strike.

Your list has two Texas teams, and two Washington DC teams. But where are the Seattle Pilots?

Most years since founding, one appearance or less:
Angels 59
Expos/Nationals 51
Pilots/Brewers 51
Mariners 43

(Current streaks)

The criteria was time between founding and first WS appearance, not victory (otherwise the Senators/Rangers would be first and the Astros would be second). Milwaukee first appeared in 1982 after founding in 1969, a total of 13 seasons. The Angels went 41 seasons in drought before making it in 2002.

I know. I purposely changed the criteria so I could make a futility list with two Seattle teams on it.

RE: Rendon just hit a Grand Slam
Astros-Nats series begins Tuesday. Should be a classic (and last night's G6 of the ALCS was a classic, no doubt about that).

Houston is the biggest World Series favorite in Vegas since 2007 (Boston over Colorado). I'm not sure about that - Houston is a great team no doubt, but they haven't been as dominant in the postseason as they were in the regular season. And the October Nats team is a vastly better team than the 1st half of the season Nats team.

ETA - in thinking about it a bit, the Vegas odds might be a bit of a response to Mattress Mac. Vegas needs to get some folks to bet on Washington.

The way I read it, Lamar High coach David Munoz's wife is the one at Rice.

RE: Rendon just hit a Grand Slam
Cody Bellinger won the NL MVP (19 1st place votes and 10 2nd place votes and 362 points overall). Christian Yelich was the runner-up (10-18-1, 317). Rendon was a distant 3rd (1 1st place, 1 2nd place votes, 242 points overall). It's kind of a crappy vote total for AR, but the voting is done before the postseason begins and his final 2 weeks were just a little off.

Bellinger's final 2 months were off.

RE: Rendon just hit a Grand Slam
Apparently Stephen Strasburg just signed back with the Nats on a $245 million deal (didn't look at the years involved yet - that's a massive contract for a pitcher but Cole will surpass it shortly). But Stras signing with Washington pretty much ensures Rendon will not. I'd look for him to be signing with either Texas or Los Angeles, and I wouldn't be surprised if the deal is announced later this week.

Seven years.

And, reinterating what FBO posted above:

CBS Sports Wrote:3. What does this mean for Rendon?
League sources had already indicated to CBS Sports prior to Monday that Anthony Rendon was expected to sign elsewhere. The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers, among others, are among his top potential suitors. As such, the Nationals will need to find a new third baseman between now and spring. That could be as easy as signing Josh Donaldson, who is considered the downmarket alternative.

From Twitter:

https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/...0978550785
Quote:The #Nats are deferring more than $80 million of Strasburg's $245 million contract.

and

https://twitter.com/MarkZuckerman/status...9144083456
Quote:The Nationals and Stephen Strasburg will be holding a press conference here in San Diego at 5:30 pm Eastern.

Philly is still in the mix too for AR, but I don't see him signing (a) with a division rival and (b) with the same team where Bryce Harper plays. I think it's 50/40 Texas/Dodgers personally (maybe 10 percent Philly).

7 years for / $245 was actually the same terms quoted by the NYT baseball writer for Cole. Yankees have to go another year now, I'll bet.

I saw a couple weeks ago where the Nats' thinking was that they would have an easier time signing Strasburg versus Rendon, so it seems they had a good read on things.

And just think what the Nationals could have done last off-season, when Rendon's request was supposedly only for $160M to $170MM (similar to Altuve).
