RE: Southern Miss/Alabama game will eventually not happen
On a related note: I read just last week that over the past 5 years, Alabama has played more games against Top 25 teams than anybody in the nation.

In these past 5 seasons, they've played regular season OOC games against:
Louisville
Florida State
Southern Cal
Wisconsin
West Virginia

In the years prior to that, they played regular season games versus:
Virginia Tech x 2
Michigan
Penn State x 2
Clemson

They've been so dominant in the regular season under Saban, I think people just assume they're playing weak schedules. Truth is, they just beat everyone so badly it leads to false assumptions. They've won 5 of the past 10 National Titles. Whatever they're doing, they're doing it right.

I don't know any facts to make a reasonable argument - other than I think they get more help from SEC refs than any other team and they play most games with home field advantage - so you may be right. But after living in Alabama for 5 years in my younger years, and growing to hate everything about them, I now have to go throw up a little. 03-puke 03-puke

P5s not scheduling G5s is the last step toward starving us out & making us willingly retreat into our own NCAA subdivision. Now that they’ve added cost of attendance, they’ll follow it up by removing a revenue stream.

The bottom dweller schools in the P5 conferences will object to this as all games vs P5 will kill any chance that many of these schools will have to get bowl eligible/winning record. State, Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky and Arkansas in just the SEC will be firing coaches every 3 years due to constant losing records should this take effect. Probably same with all of the ACC minus Clemson and in most years FSU. This past season the Pac 12 had 7 of their 12 teams finish with 7 wins or less...imagine how much worse it would've been had they not played G5s or FCS teams. Same for the Big 10...8 of their 14 had 7 wins or less

I don't know. I think the first to go should be FCS opponents and Alabama plays quite a few of them. If you rule them out then it helps all those in D-1 FBS.

If Iowa State plays Duke, one of them is going to win.

Sure, on the whole, fewer schools each year would make bowl games/have winning seasons, but that’s minor collateral damage compared to a greater concentration of power and the revenue that follows Those bottom dwellers know where their bread is buttered. Indiana & Kentucky aren’t ever going to keep Ohio State & Alabama from getting what they want.

Playing Northern schools early in the season down South in a dome when those teams play their biggest games late in the season outside in freezing weather and snow does not impress me. When they play Wisconsin, Michigan or Penn State in late November at their place in the snow and run up and down the field on them will I be impressed.

Saban on Alabama's Schedule

If the power 5 bunch decides to play football only among themselves then the others should refuse to play them in any sport. A brief example is LSU who scheduled 40 home baseball games. 18 of those games were against teams outside the power 5, no return games, which means they would have to scramble with other power 5s to fill in those 18 spots on the schedule meaning they go to home and homes with p5 winding up losing about 10 home matchups and their fans and bottom line finances would not be happy. Apply that to all sports like volleyball, soccer, etc and you would soon see the biggies backing off in order to return to better schedules.
