No. SMU is in the DFW metro. Houston is a couple hours away as is Tulsa. We don't need more schools in that area. Besides they'd need at least 10 years to develop. The AAC doesn't have time for a "Project" school. It needs someone who can come in and contribute right away. Someone who can add value immediately. Wichita wouldn't do that. I'm surprised people are even discussing this.

Yeah - Kansas can't even find any FB players - they are something like UConn when it comes to FB.

Well, Kansas has some great Juco programs. LastChanceU is about one of them. Plenty of out-of-state players coming to those schools. And they get good players to come there for basketball/baseball. They could get a team there again if they wanted it.

You know, one thing that is compelling to me is how successful Juco programs are in Kansas. LastChanceU has showed me that football fans in Kansas are plentiful and hungry for a team to root for. I believe they would definitely support a team at Wichita State. Independence CC is not that far from Wichita. Plus, they could develop a recruiting pipeline with some of these programs.

How would a football program affect the basketball program? Can you get facilities on par with the rest of the AAC and your in-state competition? Will fans show up even in bad seasons?

If you start football I think there should be a 10 year goal that starts out in the FCS, establish a winning culture and build up fan support. Perhaps VCU could follow the same model. I think since WSU is already in the AAC it would be reasonable that inclusion as a football member is within grasp if they reached out for it and met certain goals.

It's not happening. They likely don't have $150M laying around to spend the next 5 years.

The Koch Brothers are only worth $60 Billion each, and are already the largest boosters of WSU. If Wichita wants to get int football, coming up with money isn't the issue.

Eh...pretty informed in that we are in year ten of what is being proposed in this OP. It's not just a magic wand decision to go from not owning a football to FBS. And if you go back to feasibility study as inception date it's year 13. All I am saying is that people who aren't Wichita State fans putting forth FBS football as a solution for the AAC's #12 is not practical in that it's a solution for a problem the AAC has and Wichita State does not. Wichita State and certainly VCU are very content devoting their money and energies to March.
