Evan Prater Highest Rated Recruit In Cincinnati Football History
Quote:247sports released new rankings for the 2020 class today and one of the biggest risers was Cincinnati commit and Dual Threat Quarterback Evan Prater. The 6-foot-5 190 pound signal caller saw a meteoric rise from 290th nationally to 156th, from 3star to 4star, 8th ranked Dual Threat Quarterback in the country to 5th ranked and from the 7th ranked prospect in the state of Ohio all the way to #2 making him the highest rated recruit in Cincinnati Football history.

Prater Is Greater

This is so incredible and surprising on many levels that I don't know where to begin. I admit I'm weak on all the recruiting metrics and ratings processes but how can a kid go from where he was to now the #2 recruit in the State of Ohio and highest for the Bearcats all-time? Was he rated to low to begin with?

As the highest rated recruit for the Bearcats, who did he surpass to get there? I imagine some big names.

Think of how this works for Cincinnati football and Coach Fick. You now have two top recruits from Ohio that Ohio State didn't get [or some other top P5 program]. Talk about changing the face of your program. Could this class end up being a total game changer for us moving forward? Not to mention we got a top Quarterback. Let me repeat again. QUARTERBACK. The most important position on the field and Prater chose the Cincinnati Bearcats that are led by a coach who is known for defense. This is just incredible.

Imagine how this impacts future classes in terms of local, top talent kids looking to Cincinnati as a viable option for them. Honestly, I'm trying to process this gents...

I obviously credit the coaches, but let's remember the kid who was truly first in - Malik Vann. Remember how much of an impact his commitment had, and then how instrumental he was in bringing the rest of his class together? That kid was tireless in his support for UC, and I believe it's paying further dividends now.

Jarell White was the first big name local kid to jump in. His commitment had a direct impact on Whyle and then Vann. All three of those guys set the stage for the future...

Obviously, the guy is really good. I'm not the best evaluator of High School talent, but you could tell that the guy was by far the best player on the field. And I watched him in the state semifinals. Seems like a great too. Really looking forward to him being a Bearcat. I'm not surprised by this at all.

I guess it is just based on his rating and not his composite score. By composite, he is the 9th best recruit we have ever had. The top 10 is mostly guys who never really made it as Bearcats. Our best recruit of all time is Dyjuan Lewis who caught two passes in his Bearcat career.

RE: Evan Prater Highest Rated Recruit In Cincinnati Football History
I've never been much of a recruiting guru myself. I pretty much leave that to the coaches to do their jobs and get the best guys they can to win games.

That said, I learned very quickly from coaching my kid's baseball and basketball teams that... I WAS A MUCH BETTER COACH WHEN I HAD GOOD PLAYERS.

Now I hope Evan Prater comes in and becomes a 1st team all American. But even if he doesn't, there is a tangible momentum in recruiting once you start getting certain guys. I do believe that there will be an "Evan Prater effect" that will lead to us getting another guy and then it will be the "this other guy effect"... and so on, and so on, until UC is the COOL place to go.

One might say Memphis has it in basketball right now.

...I myself, think they're cheating their a$$es off, but that's just me.

I'm curious if 247 updating his rating so high makes Scout/ESPN/Rivals look into reevaluating him and pushing him up their board as well. That'd really improve his composite score and could make him historically one of the great from a composite standpoint as well.. or if the other recruiting sites don't really care what 247 does.

This must not include transfers. If you include transfers there are several rated higher. Gunner Kiel and Demtrius Jones were both Top 50 players.

Highly rated transfers who come to UC are not nearly as highly recruited as when they came out of high school. If they were really that great that they still deserved a 5* rating, they would have started at Notre Dame. Or transferred to another top-10 program.

While it may be true for some of the transfers we get...Guys like Luc, Keil, and Eric Wilson likely could have played and started at all but a handful of schools in the FBS.

This kid is perfect for our system, too. He can redshirt and then watch for 1 year, then he dominates for 3.

you can bet that Memphis going back to boosters paying for recruits after hiring Anfarnee Hardaway as coach. He played under A coach that loved boosters buying them. He'll get caught eventually just like when John Calipari was running the show. Still amazed the NCAA doesn't penalize Coach Calipari for the cheating at UMASS and Memphis. UK fans won't be happy when he finally leaves at UK. It's inevitable.
