Ohio picked to win the east, and the MACC.

Discuss.

Best player plus a usually top notch defense (by MAC standards) makes a pretty good argument.

Toledo with 15 votes, Western 5, Northern 3.

I just don't get it, especially the wide margin, but OK.

Ohio got all 24 votes for the east.

You could pick a part units and give a numerical ranking, but the bottom line is Toledo hosts WMU, EMU and NIU. Two before November MACtion... It's hard to put us below 2nd with that schedule. We'll have the best running game in the league. If we have a pulse of a D we will be in all games.

NIU gets to start off 2-2 at best traveling to Utah, Nebraska and Vandy. They'll be dead. If not, they draw Miami and Ohio in the East. And they have a new coach

WMU has the best QB in the West, but we fricking dusted their butts last season in Waldo. Are we really losing to them on Homecoming? Their D is even worse than ours.

EMU is good but they play everyone away and their offense probably isn't high flying enough to run away from decent teams. They'll be in a bunch of close games like the last two seasons.

If we were finishing in 2nd to anyone it would be EMU.

Hard to beleive anyone would be talking about EMU possibly being a top dog to beat. Their coaching staff have done a fine job turning around their program. Let's hope this doesn't happen with the birds down south. Wasn't UT pick to finish 2nd last season?

Toledo brought a QB to MAC media day. I don’t think there’s anymore questions at that position. Mitch is our guy.

RE: Media picks Rockets to win the MAC West
NIU has a new coach. WMU QB is talented, but, was injured last season vs. Michigan (I think?) so he's hard to gauge. Mitch is our guy and I don't have a problem with that. He's a system QB which I like. I don't have a whole lot of faith in our Defensive Coordinators, but, like someone said earlier, if our Defense has a pulse then we can compete with anyone. College Football is a Track Meet anyhow and we have some outstanding athletes. Gotta love it.

Valid points. I'm mainly going on the combination of the deficiencies I saw last season and my skepticism over whether they can make enough improvement between December and September, and the losses at WR and Thompkins. Granted, losing Thompkins isn't the end of the world by any stretch, but he provided some very capable depth.

One positive I can think of is that maybe having the top recruiting class in 2018 will begin yielding some fruitage. I haven't checked on how many of those commits are still on the roster, though. Usually a couple are no-shows and at least a couple drop off.

Agree that it would appear that the QB job is Guad's to lose. But, if they are going to stick with the Guadagni, Peters order, with Thompson and the Johnson's gone I think they need to change up the offense. JMO.

Seriously, what is the question? Both guys who started are back, Guadagni, the MAC passing efficiency leader, is number 1 and we may have the league’s best backup. I don’t see the question unless it’s are they good enough to win. Receiver is a bigger question on O, IMO.

Injuries, decision making, poor completion percentage

Eli Peter's had the highest Profootball focus ranking for Toledo at 80 point something. Most MAC teams have Zero 80 players. Koback was a 79 point something and Hines was a 74 point something.

Mitch and Peters combined stats were...
55.8% completion percentage
2,890 yards
31 TDs
10 INts

55.8% isn't way below average?

55.8% is 103 of 126 with qualifyng attempts
2,808 is 41st of 300+ or so that threw passes
31 TDs is 12th of 126
10 INts is tied for 23rd most with 17 players in the country

Take the good with the bad. Our QB situation is 3rd best in the MAC.

The only ones from 2018 really missing are OG Sam Baker and DE Jake Hudson.

RE: Media picks Rockets to win the MAC West
Guadagni's passer rating of 162 was best in the MAC last year, and top 5 all-time at UT. His TD to INT ratio was off the charts at 13 to 3. He also added 60 yards per game rushing. He did have a stellar receiving corp to throw to, but the O-line was IMO not nearly as good as the previous couple years. In 16 & 17, the OL gave up 14 and 22 sacks - in 18 they gave up 29, even with Mitch being much more mobile than Woodside was.

I've no reason to think he hasn't worked and improved a lot with a season under his belt. I think he can have an outstanding season, but IMO the question marks are whether the OL can improve over last year, and whether a couple WRs will step up and perform. The door is wide open for Phillips, McKinley-Lewis & Mitchell to shine, but I have a sneaking feeling that one of the freshman may flash early. Anyone know if Cooper is fully recovered from his injury?

VMI, Fresno, Nevanda.
Peters numbers, not bad either.
Not much I'd take from a half season of stats but 3 WRs in NFL camps? I think they get the credit. But to each their own.

Sacks: are those sacks charged to the OL or to the QB? I did a quick google and it's not clear that mobility leads to lower sack rates.

The stat that mattered most I think is "games played."

Did I missed something, what happen to QB Bradley, the 4 star QB, I believe from Georgia? Did he disappear, transfer out?
