If ND opens up as a strong Catholic he will go. How long will BK be at ND?
Coaching longevity is rare. Build a program that a good new coach can continue. We are doing that at UC (Gramps was the exception).
#1 should be restated as, "with his current resume, CLF will never get the OSU job."
If Day flames out while Fickell is racking up 10 & 11-win seasons, that opinion will change very rapidly. Especially if CLF beats OSU, Nebraska, or Notre Dame in the next 3 years.
I honestly don't get why Fickell wouldn't be in consideration for the Ohio State job if they were so willing to turn it over to Ryan Day, who has far less head coaching experience.
Day's obviously a talented offensive mind and worked under another great offensive mind in Urban Meyer but I don't understand why OSU would snub their nose at Fickell, who's proven himself as a talent head coach and recruiter at the D1 level.
I'm making this statement to honestly see if anyone can provide any clarity here.
Here's my opinion...
1) technically, he's already been coach there and didn't do very well, whether it was his fault or not.
2) He has defiled himself by going to UC. O$U is above UC... in their minds. They can surely find someone else without having to take lowly UC's scraps.
Seems random to me.

Urban Meyer - Florida (Retired)

Tressel was at YSU, but it's all the same. There isnt really a pattern to most hiring practices out there...we really shouldnt look too hard into this, just enjoy the ride.

RE: Jobs BDF might be interested in
Yeah, this gets tiresome at times. I know part of it is that we've had some damn good coaches leave after their third year. Only one we wanted gone after his third year. Coach Fick is a damn good coach and recruiter trending up, up, up. It's natural for us to feel a little apprehension or to at least ponder a change at the top due to our success and our recent coaching history. That said, I stand by what I posted earlier...I believe Fick will be different and he will stay longer than anyone since Minter. If you really want to tip the balance in our favor, somehow, someway, we find our way to a P5 conference during his tenure as head coach. I'm just glad he's here right now and leading our football program.

When we go 15-0 this year he’ll have no reason to leave.

I was pretty convinced that whoever replaced Urban needed to be some big name/big splash hire to keep the program going and make the OSU fans happy. I was pretty shocked when Ryan Day was the choice and it seemed to be what most the fans wanted.
That is no slight against Day, and I am sure his 3 game stint as head coach helped warm people up to the idea of him.

The admin up there doesn't really give a damn about their fans. They care about them as much as a crack dealer cares about his crackheads. They know they're not going anywhere. They do care about the alumni and even more about the donating alumni. But the average t-shirt fan is viewed as an inconvenient annoyance.

Big “8——“ Fick
AKA: Luke Fickell
First time I remember BDF being used was week 1 UCLA when we converted a few 4th down tries.

Even if we go 13-0 there is no way we get into the playoff. UCF did not and we will not. Sorry.

Even if tO$U goes 11-1 and wins the B1G? Because if they do that with just a loss to us, they’d be in the playoff. It would be madness to put a 12-1 team in and exclude the 13-0 team that beat them.

If to$u goes 12-1 then UC at 13-0 could be in or it might be 2 from SEC, Clemson and B12 winner.

beat Marshall but they are CUSA champions, but Ohio State and they are Big Ten camps, beat UCLA and they are highly competitive on the P12, beat Houston or Memphis twice. There would have to be some real explaining to keep UC out. They could waive UCF off because Strength of Schedule but they may come across some issues trying to do the same to UC. Also in all honesty UC, when good, probably has a better brand name...

I think you are dreaming here... There will be one "explanation" needed: UC plays in the AAC and the "competition" isn't the same "week-in-and-week-out."
Seriously. Beat Marshall, CUSA champs or not, and you've only beaten Marshall. Beat OSU, and it will be "Well, OSU had a 'down week'..." and "Anyone can win ONE game...". Beat Houston and it will be "They have a new coach." Anybody else in-conference will be "Well, it's the AAC."
It's a rigged game. The CFP is part of the new subdivision in College Football. And we're on the wrong side of the tracks.
