Yeah, I've never been... comfortable... with that either.

Not really the image I care to think about when referring to our football coach.

As long as he's producing 11 win seasons and getting great local recruits, I couldn't care less if he was "LDF".

You guys realize the moniker is not about the length of his junk, right? It’s about his drive to win, him going for it on 4th down several times against UCLA and others last year, his prowess on the recruiting trail, etc. In all actuality the more apt metaphor is that he has balls the size of grapefruits/made of steel...

Word. Also, the bonus is the moniker rhymes. It was meant for a sports message board with rabid fans and nothing more.

I think most people here are underestimating the appeal of Illinois and Purdue. If you think SEC teams have money... Purdue just guaranteed Jeff Brohm $5.35 million for next year, which is top-10 in college football. For a 6-6 season where he lost to Eastern Michigan.

I'd pick either of them over Michigan State. They're both close to Ohio and have just as big alumni bases. Both nicer towns than East Lansing, especially for a guy with a big family.

Sure they've both been horrible at football since 2003, but that's more because of bad coaching hires than anything else.

If ND opens up as a strong Catholic he will go. How long will BK be at ND?

Coaching longevity is rare. Build a program that a good new coach can continue. We are doing that at UC (Gramps was the exception).

#1 should be restated as, "with his current resume, CLF will never get the OSU job."

If Day flames out while Fickell is racking up 10 & 11-win seasons, that opinion will change very rapidly. Especially if CLF beats OSU, Nebraska, or Notre Dame in the next 3 years.

I honestly don't get why Fickell wouldn't be in consideration for the Ohio State job if they were so willing to turn it over to Ryan Day, who has far less head coaching experience.

Day's obviously a talented offensive mind and worked under another great offensive mind in Urban Meyer but I don't understand why OSU would snub their nose at Fickell, who's proven himself as a talent head coach and recruiter at the D1 level.

I'm making this statement to honestly see if anyone can provide any clarity here.

Here's my opinion...

1) technically, he's already been coach there and didn't do very well, whether it was his fault or not.

2) He has defiled himself by going to UC. O$U is above UC... in their minds. They can surely find someone else without having to take lowly UC's scraps.

He wouldn’t be on their radar now but if Ryan Day is gone in 3 years and Fick has 3 straight 10+ win seasons he’d be in their top 3 finalist no doubt.

Perfect mix of Urban and Tressel. OSU fan base already loves Fickell. Anyone who points to his interim season with best players suspended is an idiot.

What Urban did in his first year at OSU was next to a miracle. (Pinnacle of his coaching career imo)

Put it this way: I know the fans would not be against Fick. Now maybe the athletic department has something against him as Doss OSU insider noted to him. (OSU scandals? Fick seems like a straight arrow?)

We get it is meant from love. But even as a metaphor (which inherently takes on various connotations beyond your description), I don't think it's what CLF is about. He isn't out to prove he's the toughest guy or the biggest alpha in every room he enters. Obviously, I can't speak for him, but I highly doubt it's the type of nickname he'd be comfortable with nor would he encourage it. Unless or until I hear differently from CLF himself, it's not a nickname I'll be using. We can do better.

CLF won't go back to OSU I think is a mutual decision. He was fortunate that Coach Meyer took him back after his one year and OSU and their faithful were not so happy with his one year at the helm. This is speculation/conjecture, but his staying at UC has to do with what he learn in his one year as head coach at OSU. He can now design/build and execute his own program at a relatively high level....not blue blood, but top 25 and Jan 1 bowl games....hopefully. 02-13-banana

1. Rhymes with what?
2. Probably no harm if it just stayed forever on a fairly small message board, but once you put something out on the Internet, you don't control it or where it goes anymore. That's Internet 101 stuff at this point.

No, it doesn't have the same rhyme-ring to it.

If people are getting offended, do I need to take back Cadaverville? Granpappy Grubbs? Snuffy Smith?

Offended? No.

Some of us just feel like we're capable of lauding our coach without needing to reference his genitalia.

I guess it's all in how you look at things.

I think any really good coach can win a national title if he has a 70K+ stadium, large alumni base willing to contribute and in a p6 conference. Purdue can be good, but they aren't being great anytime soon. I could see Illinois (if the athletic department can finally right the ship) conceivable be a powerhouse for a few years with the cards all falling right.

With all the talent in the NJ area, Rutgers could be good if they got their head out of their butts.

For some reason Michigan State feels right. Large big ten team, good support but it is not Michigan.

His recruiting implies to me promises to kids I believe he would keep. It is up to UC to make sure he is paid commensurate with his performance.

I believe if we pay market value he will stay. To me OSU is his goal. I would want to succeed at my beloved UC alma mater. Why, because UC enabled me to be me.

One of the keys to keeping him might be if his kids go to UC...then it becomes his defacto alma mater too.
I believe his oldest is just a few years from college...time will tell.
