Am I the only one around here who thinks the BDF moniker is a bit disrespectful? CLF works fine for me, and it might be appreciated more by the coach we'd like to keep.

RE: Jobs BDF might be interested in
I believe he's here for the foreseeable future and this will be different than what UC fans have come to expect. Why?
  • He's an Ohio guy - born and raised in Columbus.
  • He played Ohio high school football.
  • He played at Ohio State.
  • He's never coached outside of Ohio [Akron, Ohio St, Cincinnati].
  • He can build this program up with HIS stamp - much like Brian Kelly did - and take it to the highest level. I'm talking "erect the statue" territory.
  • He's realizing the advantages of being in the center of a pretty damn good, fertile recruiting region. Area high school coaches are taking notice and bridges are being built/maintained.
  • He can be the first coach to stay here more than 4 seasons since Dantonio.
  • He has the ear of his wife who made the suggestion to him to consider interviewing for the Cincinnati job if it became available.
  • He's Catholic and that fits demographically with Cincinnati.
  • He's a family guy with roots and puts his kids above other things.
  • Mike Bohn/University Leadership will do everything they possibly can to keep him happy within financial reason. If he continues this winning clip there is no reason not to pay him what Dana Hogster is making at Houston.
  • He won't leave unless Notre Dame or Ohio State wants to hire him. Neither job will have an opening anytime soon.

As a more modestly endowed individual, I feel disrespected each time I see that.

When we get top 400 players or get a 4th and 1....my first reaction is always hell yeah BDF!

When we beat navy on a nice Saturday afternoon by 30+...my reaction is more of a great game plan by CLF!

I’ve thought the same thing with the (BDF). Not sure with the more media attention UC will be getting if we want to keep it up. Barstool Sports would love it though.

Fickell has no connections outside of Dantonio to MSU. Dantonio spent his longest time as a assistant at MSU. He obviously liked the place and obviously he wanted to coach there. Fickell had no connections and no reason to be there. Yes money and opportunity exist there but it's not much of an upgrade outside of dollars and conference affiliation at this point. Fickell came after the UC job, UC didn't come hunting him down. Fickell turned down opportunities to coach elsewhere but decided that he was going to come here to be a head coach. Maybe he'll leave one day and that's fine, but i believe it's going to take a dream scenario to do so. I don't think he's looking or interested in another coaching opportunity at this point. Fickell had never been a nomad and I don't expect that to change. He probably will leave but he may be different and want to build a legacy somewhere that he built.

All I'm saying is logically Michigan State doesn't make sense and Fickell chose UC and I think it'll take more than East Lansing to lure him away.

Not a traditional power. A "little brother" school. If you're going to leave you to it for a top tier job in that conference: OSU, PSU, Mich, perhaps Wisconsin since the west is weak in that conference. I think we're in a much stronger place than when we lost Dantonio to MSU. Given the Catholic roots of Fickells family I think we'd have a fighting chance to keep him over MSU.

Of course I never would have thought our basketball coach would go to UCLA because of his family situation so I'm just going to be done predicting these things. I'll just leave it at I don't think MSU is the job some on here make it out to be.

I have a neighbor whose son in law is an Associate AD at to$u. From his son he told me:

1. BDF will never get the OSU job. I could not get him to say why?
2. BDF is a OH/Midwest guy
3. BDF has a 10 years plan. A lot has to do with all the kids.
4. BDF feels Cincy is a great place to raise a big Catholic Family but so is South Bend.

If ND opens up as a strong Catholic he will go. How long will BK be at ND?

Coaching longevity is rare. Build a program that a good new coach can continue. We are doing that at UC (Gramps was the exception).

He leaves only if the tOSU job opens up. He is an Ohio guy with a close-knit family in and around CBus. He does not want too move far away from CBus. He's a Catholic guy and you can't find a better city for Catholic schools and upbringing than Cincinnati. He is a Buckeye. He left for the second best job in Ohio (UC) because the best job in Ohio (tOSU) was filled. He will only leave when that job opens.

Dantonio was here only three. You'd have to go back to Minter, to find the last one that was here more than 4.

Yeah, I've never been... comfortable... with that either.

Not really the image I care to think about when referring to our football coach.

As long as he's producing 11 win seasons and getting great local recruits, I couldn't care less if he was "LDF".

You guys realize the moniker is not about the length of his junk, right? It’s about his drive to win, him going for it on 4th down several times against UCLA and others last year, his prowess on the recruiting trail, etc. In all actuality the more apt metaphor is that he has balls the size of grapefruits/made of steel...

True. I didn't state that in the best way. I meant Tubs was here for 4 and that has been the longest tenure since Dantonio was hired [post Minter].

Is this because Cloran is an XU guy?

OK, I guess this is one of those man-card type things... like not taking a leak right next to a guy when there is the availability to leave a one urinal buffer zone between the two of you. If there are only two urinals, no problem. If there are three or more... leave some space.

If during the course of a game one wishes to use the one-time phrase "man, that call took some balls", I'm fine with that.

Placing a permanent nickname on your coach in regard to his package... I'm throwing the flag for a man card violation.
