I think we paid it off just before Ike was elected.

Rice is in a cool location with the med center. I do surgical sales and would drive by it every week

It's way too big for Rice, it's drab, the amenities are terrible, and the outside is very uninviting. The campus is beautiful, but the stadium is a forgotten relic.

I love the neighborhood the stadium is in and for the little support (fans in stands) Rice gets. The whole neighborhood has signs supporting Rice football in their yards.

Dont know what type of trees they are but the streets around the stadium are lined with trees that almost connect branches in the middle to give it a tunnel like affect. Ready nice looking. The stadium sets in one of the nicer neighborhoods in CUSA.

Do they still have the tree on top of the building in one of the endzones? They were doing the raising of it before the Western/Rice game. People views on stadiums are personal and we all have our own ideals on what makes it best for each of us. While I can make a list ranking each...I could also make a list of the good things of those at the bottom of that list. Other than UAB's stadium I could probably put 10 things I liked about each

Are you talking about the lone pine tree they raised to the top of the new EZF during construction? That's an old construction tradition when a building tops out.

If you have to rent a stadium to play college football in you probably dont belong in this discussion on "CUSA Stadiums". Or at least that is the way I'm rating.

You realize most college teams finance their stadiums so they don’t actually own them...and that’s essentially a type of renting one.
So you make the argument that homeowners don't actually own their home because they have a mortgage? Pretty bad take.

Is UTSA the only stadium in the conference that doesn't belong to the school? Is it the only stadium in the conference that is off campus? I guess UAB is joining that situation, right?

They don’t own it. The bank owns it. You’re just obligated to make payments according to a contract. I live in an 800k house and I put 25% down when I bought it, and when I get my bonuses I put it towards my mortgage, but I have about 400k left to pay. Once I pay that I own it, but I don’t own it now. I dunno how you could justify owning a house when you’re borrowing money.

The Alamodome is too big for UTSA, and the venue lacks a college football atmosphere. Even with the recent renovations, the place seems dated. Plus, I think the cannon disaster still hurts the perception of the UTSA game experience.

The sooner UTSA gets a nice expandable 35K on campus stadium, the better off their program will be. That's my opinion anyway.

Lacks a college atmosphere!!? What are you talking about, they have had some of the most exciting bowl games played there with 70k fans. That rivals the NY Day Bowls. I agree about a stadium on campus. I hope that happens soon as well. SA is exploding, population wise and business wise.
Maybe he's talking about when UTSA plays there and not other teams for bowl games. Because honestly who cares what the atmosphere is when other teams play there.

Well UTSA has had the highest attendance for a G5 team ever, we are also the one of the youngest teams in the G5 but average the highest attendance... they’ve averaged the highest attendance over the last 5 years as well. So I just get confused when some teams average 10-16k and have been around for 50 years but they have a college atmosphere

Since we have started football we have finished in the top 3 every year and 1st a few times & 2nd a bunch only missing first by less than 1,000.

Also UTSA is making their downtown campus just as big and probably bigger than its main campus. So the Dome will be very close to the new modern downtown campus which if you go downtown you’ll see all the cranes and construction.

Ever heard the term non-sequitur?

The bowl games that you're referencing do not include UTSA either.

When UTSA plays at the Alamodome, the atmosphere is small time. Yes, the crowds are sizable, but in a 65,000 seat stadium, they feel much smaller. Also, the place just doesn't have anything special to distinguish it as a fun college football game venue. The only close to a notable tradition is that horrible cannon that y'all fired.

Yeah he shouldn't have said G5 but you are right he is talking about the FCS debut they had. This attendance report looks interesting and is not inline with what they have supplied to NCAA. According to NCAA attendance records they had 24k+ average last season. I wonder why they differ and its not like some outsider is making up numbers. Weird.

As for UTSA attendance....

Yes, it has been very good, but until last season the Runners had posted three straight years of declining attendance. And, their 2018 attendance is down almost 5,000 per game since they joined C-USA in 2013.

2018- 24,710
2017- 22,821
2016- 23,038
2015- 27,576
2014- 29,214

The NCAA will allow announced attendance in their yearly records.

The above is actual or paid attendance going by the rules and signed by the President of the school. I know which one I would trust...

the one going by bylaws and most likely the one that could get you NCAA Sanctions if you lied

That is announced attendance. I know which one is most likely true and a NCAA Rules violation if you lie on it.

Here's the WSJ report on scanned tickets vs announced attendance for UTSA. Surprise surprised the scanned tickets and the paid for tickets in the above file that was signed by the President of UTSA...

are close to the same, the scanned tickets are 74,385 for UTSA in 2017 and the paid attendance (according to the UTSA President) is 77,784

I love the atmosphere, especially when there’s 40k there. The bowl game TCU VS Stanford was awesome. Plus you have great access to the city and Riverwalk & as I mentioned in 5-10 years there will be about 25-30k students downtown

I’m not saying it is the best but it’s obviously good enough to host a well viewed and attended bowl game , final 4 multiple times, Army HS game , MLB games, NFL games, etc. Most of you guys have had 50+ years we’ve had 9

1. UTEP, FAU, UNT, WKU and UNCC (All beautiful stadiums some aged and some very new)
2. USM, Marshall, Rice and FIU.
3. ODU and MT (Sorry EmptySue folks your FB stadium is as worse as our old stadium)

UNCC stadium had some odd acoustic echo from PA. It may be from being a empty, concrete hole.
