If you have to rent a stadium to play college football in you probably dont belong in this discussion on "CUSA Stadiums". Or at least that is the way I'm rating.

You realize most college teams finance their stadiums so they don’t actually own them...and that’s essentially a type of renting one.

No offense Lizard Breath, but that was dumb as hell and is in no way grounded in reality.

RE: Rank the CUSA football stadiums
I've seen every stadium in CUSA in person but UTEP and I watched a FB game at all of them but UTEP, UNCC, UTSA, USM. I will leave UTEP because I haven't seen it in person and UTSA because it's a rental

I rated my top 4 and here's my bottom 3

ODU, loved the history of the stadium but wasn't a big fan of how it was laid out and the amenities
Middle just not a fan of the style or the layout or amenities
UAB even its history cant help it

Everyone else will be in my middle section other than UNCC and I will wait till they get a "stadium" on top of the hole in the ground. My personal least favorite type of stadiums are hole in the ground. That can change once stands are built on top of it...if done correctly. Troy St did it correctly. Ark St didn't...in my opinion

So with ODU, UAB and UNCC all building or adding to my list will be updated and possibly change in the next few year.

One of the type of stadiums I cant stand (erector set) is the #1 stadium on my list. Being old can also be at the top because if something is built correctly it can stand the course of time. I still reserve the right to move USM down or up depending on amenities. If it's anything like Reed Green Coliseum I will move it down. But it's the type of stadium I grew up with and still love the built....you see the outside and you think football

Yeah i didn't get that reference at all. Just because someone finances it and pays it off in stages doesn't make them any less owners of the stadium than the ones that actually buy it with cash down and that doesn't mean they are renting it. UTSA's situation vs rest of the league is as simple as leasing vs financing a car but with gigantic payments 03-lmfao

The Alamodome is too big for UTSA, and the venue lacks a college football atmosphere. Even with the recent renovations, the place seems dated. Plus, I think the cannon disaster still hurts the perception of the UTSA game experience.

The sooner UTSA gets a nice expandable 35K on campus stadium, the better off their program will be. That's my opinion anyway.

Rank the CUSA football stadiums
I once ranked all the stadiums based on the press box because people on our odu board were flipping out over the press box. It gets a little weird over there sometimes, especially in the off-season. Found it, here ya go:

ODU - not ranked
UAB - not ranked since they are getting renovated?

1. UNT - nice brick framing, several levels.

2. UTEP - simple and clean

3. Charlotte - brick with mostly glass is a nice look. Looks small but fits with stadium size

4. La Tech - prominent but looks outdated

5. USM - sleek-ish. Can't really tell it's there, which could be a good thing

(This is where it gets bad)

6. FAU - looks like a hotel was built behind the stadium, way too monolithic

7. WKU - simple construction, pretty plain

8. Rice - outdated, doesn't really fit with the enormous stadium

9. MTSU - outdated, very boring

10. Marshall - outdated and doesn't really fit

11. FIU - can't really tell and in this case it's probably a bad thing

12. UTSA - possibly the worst large stadium in the country and the press box doesn't help

So you make the argument that homeowners don't actually own their home because they have a mortgage? Pretty bad take.

Is UTSA the only stadium in the conference that doesn't belong to the school? Is it the only stadium in the conference that is off campus? I guess UAB is joining that situation, right?

I think UAB was already in that situation. Legion Field was off campus and I don't think the University owned it. I think their new stadium is supposed to be in a better location for UAB, but I think it is still a joint effort with the city.

The only good things about Rice Stadium are the sightlines and the fact that it's a historic venue. I also happen to like stadiums that are "holes in the ground."

It's way too big for Rice, it's drab, the amenities are terrible, and the outside is very uninviting. The campus is beautiful, but the stadium is a forgotten relic.

Legion field is off campus built by the City for the Iron bowl till that game got moved to oncampus stadium in '89.
Even though UAB won't get an oncampus stadium. The new one that they will be playing in will be better than what they have.

I love the neighborhood the stadium is in and for the little support (fans in stands) Rice gets. The whole neighborhood has signs supporting Rice football in their yards.

Dont know what type of trees they are but the streets around the stadium are lined with trees that almost connect branches in the middle to give it a tunnel like affect. Ready nice looking. The stadium sets in one of the nicer neighborhoods in CUSA.

Do they still have the tree on top of the building in one of the endzones? They were doing the raising of it before the Western/Rice game. People views on stadiums are personal and we all have our own ideals on what makes it best for each of us. While I can make a list ranking each...I could also make a list of the good things of those at the bottom of that list. Other than UAB's stadium I could probably put 10 things I liked about each

I would rank FAU ahead of USM but that might change after I watch a FB game there.

Im going with 1a and 1b because one is a newer "soccer" type stadium and one is old school football of upper and lower decks.

I like the old style stadium of USM that is enclosed better than FAU's . But overall experience of watching a game, plus amenities, and location and the fact in another few years the palm trees will block most of the underneath metal seating. FAU is 1a

it's hard to beat the total package of FAU, great seats on both sides, easy to get food, or to use the restroom and not miss much action. The fact you can climb to the top row on the visitor side and see the Atlantic Ocean on a clear day. Plus it really is a nice looking stadium for being a erector set style.

I have to give the others more thought but I know for a fact Western would be no lower than 4th and most likely 3rd. It's the only football stadium I ever watched a FB game that was so loud that you couldn't hear the person next to you.

That's a huge advantage of being compact. There's not another stadium in CUSA (that I been to) with a larger selection of concessions. Beer lines can be slow but I have a son for that and I might drink 2 a season. Dont know about upper deck but its very easy to get in and out of updated restrooms on the lower deck and the West side.

FAU
USM
Western
UNT flat 12k crowd when I was there. Could change my mind if it was rocking

OVERHEAD VIEW and while the listed max attendance is around 22,500 the stadium will hold 24,000. The berm area is not counts on the max seats and it will hold 1500 fans. The west side foundation is already built for a few upper deck to be added if needed...35/40k

The only time WKU has played at Apogee, was in 2015. That game was a week after North Texas was destroyed by Portland St., and Dan McCarney was fired. We only had about 10K at that game with WKU. Many fans were beginning their revolt, which lead to the old AD's removal. So, no it was a very lack luster crowd for that WKU game. Things are better now.

Western played UNT the year the stadium opened...2011

Lacks a college atmosphere!!? What are you talking about, they have had some of the most exciting bowl games played there with 70k fans. That rivals the NY Day Bowls. I agree about a stadium on campus. I hope that happens soon as well. SA is exploding, population wise and business wise.

So who in this conference owns their stadium outright? I did some research and a lot of teams owe a lot of money on their stadiums.

I think we have bond payments on LT Smith until 2026 due to the renovations.

Payments are just over 2.2 mil right now, and finish at 2.9 in 2026. The original bonding amount is more than I recall the cost of the renovation being, so it may have covered more than one project at WKU.

EDIT: Scratch that, different construction project entirely. Trying to find the info for LT Smith now.

Maybe he's talking about when UTSA plays there and not other teams for bowl games. Because honestly who cares what the atmosphere is when other teams play there.

Nice complement. Those are Live Oaks that grow over the streets. They're all over the campus as well. Those trees you are referring to in the endzone are now all gone. I hope someday Rice fully landscapes the outside of the stadium. The whole place needs major work. A lot of it is in the "designing and planning" stage. I think that's short for " we're still raising the money."

Well UTSA has had the highest attendance for a G5 team ever, we are also the one of the youngest teams in the G5 but average the highest attendance... they’ve averaged the highest attendance over the last 5 years as well. So I just get confused when some teams average 10-16k and have been around for 50 years but they have a college atmosphere
