Fan Dollar Support
The Wichita State addition was great from the perspective fan dollar support (not to mention basketball prowess). For 2017, Wichita State fans bought tickets and made athletic donations to the tune of $14.6M.

Most of the other American schools (Memphis, ECU, Houston, UCF, UConn) reported about the same, plus or minus $3M. USF lagged at $8.6M, due in large part to the lack of that economic engine known as a campus football stadium. Temple, Navy and the privates did not report.

UConn generated $15.5M in fan dollar support for 2017. In terms of potential UConn replacements, here's how they stack up:

MWC
Boise = $17.7M
New Mex = $15.7M
Fresno = $14.7M
SDSU = $14.6M
Nevada = $13.2M
UNLV = $12.5M
Air Force = $12.2M
Wyoming = $12.0M
Colo St = $8.0M
Utah St = $6.7M

NonFootball
VCU = $7.7M

CUSA
Old Dominion = $9.2M
La Tech = $7.7M
Marshall = $7.5M
Southern Miss = $7.0M
UAB = $6.8M
UTEP = $6.1M

SunBelt
ULaLa = $9.1M
Ga Southern = $5.7M
App St = $5.4M

No Chance
UMass = $3.6M
Buffalo = $3.0M

Of course, BYU, Army, Dayton and Saint Louis did not report either.

From the list above, aside from Boise, New Mexico looks like a lot better fit than Colorado St. Old Dominion shows promise for the future if they can continue to build their support. Buffalo and UMass have no fans. VCU is not a home run like Wichita State was. And the rest is complete meh.

New Mexico is cutting sports. Even with their legislators telling them not to. They are a bad bad choice.

I don't know about fan support but I know they have money. They're just finishing their billion dollar investment in on campus facilities... And they have something like a 1.6 billion dollar endowment. And yes those are both billions with a B.

Doing gods work pocketing all that cash in an endowment. I am sure that is a better place to put the money to work than, idk, in the community.

In response to your odd comment about "pocketing money" in an endowment .... Might be interested in hearing what you have to say about Harvard's endowment, which is a whole hell of a lot more than Libertys, BYUs which is almost exactly the same, or any other endowment that's been pocketed so to speak. Sounds like you have the answers for everyone.

Well, they are not a church, and since in many cases growth from endownments is used for scholarships you could say it will help in the community.

Not to mention the fact that most of these endowments he's talking about are PUBLIC universities. You know... THE PEOPLE'S MONEY???

Since most of that money came from online profits it's a largely unrestricted budget as well. Where Rice or other Universities with large endowments have built them around donations from wealthy donors who may determine the use of the endowment earnings, Liberty's is mostly up to the Presidents discretion.

Interesting that even after building a new 220 million dollar football stadium, where seats are almost certainly higher priced and linked to increased donation amounts, Colorado St still ranks below nearly every other MW school on your breakout.

MWC
Boise = $17.7M
New Mex = $15.7M
Fresno = $14.7M
SDSU = $14.6M
Nevada = $13.2M
UNLV = $12.5M
Air Force = $12.2M
Wyoming = $12.0M
Colo St = $8.0M
Utah St = $6.7M

NonFootball
VCU = $7.7M

CUSA
Old Dominion = $9.2M
La Tech = $7.7M
Marshall = $7.5M
Southern Miss = $7.0M
UAB = $6.8M
UTEP = $6.1M

SunBelt
ULaLa = $9.1M
Ga Southern = $5.7M
App St = $5.4M

No Chance
UMass = $3.6M
Buffalo = $3.0M

And the rest is complete meh.

.

Interesting that even after building a new 220 million dollar football stadium, where seats are almost certainly higher priced and linked to increased donation amounts, Colorado St still ranks below nearly every other MW school on your breakout.

Not really as these are older numbers from the ‘16/17 season. The CSU stadium didn’t open until ‘17/18. To be fair, updated USAToday numbers haven’t been released yet for whatever reason. The database used to be fairly current running just one fiscal year behind. I hope the new one comes out before fall sports begin. ‘17/18 Equity in Ahletics numbers have been out for six months now.

Good catch. I knew it seemed odd. 04-cheers

.

The easiest way to rank these is to sort by "% Allocated"

" Total Allocated: The sum of student fees, direct and indirect institutional support and state money allocated to the athletics department, minus certain funds the department transferred back to the school. The transfer amount cannot exceed the sum of student fees and direct institutional support that the department receives from the school. (Under NCAA reporting rules, any additional money transferred to the school cannot be considered part of the department’s annual operating revenues or expenses.)

The NCAA and others consider student fees, direct and indirect institutional support and state money “allocated,” or everything not generated by the department’s athletics functions."

In other words, how much help does their athletic department need.

-Most P5 schools (minus Rutgers lol) are in the single digits as a percentage
-Most of our schools are in the 35-50% range (avg 44%)
-Most G4s are in the 60s, with the exception of the MWC, which is all over the place from 25-70% (avg 45%).

And it is worth reminding everyone that the WSU $$ don't include football.

FYI, in A-Club donations/membership, Army got $7.2M in 2018 ( https://goarmywestpoint.com/documents/20...ochure.pdf )

Ticket sales would obviously add to that.
