I'm not trying to completely disagree with you, but "fraud" implies he was aware of his deficiencies. Maybe he was, but it struck me that he "believed his own press". I said at the time that maybe the goofiness wasn't exuberance, but was because he was actually goofy. (Of course, I got neg-repped for daring to not fall in line with adoring "Coach Hottie".) It strikes me that he is a weirdo / goober / mal-adjusted whatever that simply got lucky with a couple of head coaches thinking they needed him and then the timing with recruits' pop culture leading them to respond positively to the constant attention. Personally, if a coach texted me at 3 in the morning I would wonder what was wrong with the S.O.B., not be flattered by the attention.

I think that's fair- you could be right. My deal with Josh was, once you saw through the BS, you couldn't unsee it. And to see people buy it for years while he ran the program was just so frustrating. But maybe he really was just a goofball who was tone deaf to what was obvious to anyone around him or in the locker room.

That 'goofball' chose a difficult path. 'Positivity' is such a mind-trap.

People who use positive thinking as a crutch seem to come to the same roadblock--Being positive just doesn't work any more. Results don't happen.

Some start all over again with a different group of people who will buy-in to their mental exuberance and energetic charisma. lol

Since JP probably won't change, it's probably best he starts all over again--somewhere else, probably doing something else besides coaching basketball on a D1 level.

who know. Maybe it's time to be a 'life coach'--write a book, hit the talkcircuit. Or maybe he could start a new religion lol.

Anyway...JP's got some tough bumps ahead. Be Strong, JP!

he would be great coaching somewhere like Texas State or UTSA...somewhere that hoops is secondary and they'll be fine with 4 year project players, JuCo transfers, and 17-18 win seasons against a bunch of nobodies.

he can hem and haw about coaching Memphis to the NCAAs and being awarded ACC Coach of the Year and they local yokels will eat it up.

I dunno... his type is better at playing 'the uber-idealistic visionary'.

Juice boxes and gratitude bracelets ain't gonna fly no matter where he coaches.
o scratch that. His style would prolly motivate the primary grades in a private school.

edit: his shtick is kinda like a ponzi scheme

Oh yeah. I've seen the same thing in industry. Some people just want so badly to make themselves feel good or think more highly of themselves or look like they're a higher nature person that they don't, or won't, see past the positiveness BS. They want to be associated with it, even if they don't take it on as their own behavioral style.

Exactly. And when results don't happen, they won't accept reality. Then they start down the path of insanity or of being a constant liar/abuser, using other people to excuse their failures.

That's great, but it was all the fans who bit&&ed and whined and didn't buy tickets and got upset and didn't give any money to Memphis that made the university first fire pastner and then fire Tubby.

If we'd been showing up 18k strong to the forum every night Josh would still be here.

You're welcome.

Constant positivity is just as bad as constant negativity. It's ok to remain positive and supportive but you need to be grounded in reality at the same time.

I love how much this thread is gnawing at the pro-Pastners.

Josh showed me his slimy side when he wanted Aki Collins to get the TSU job. He lied on Tre Draper to me, I guess he was thinking I was not going to talk to Tre. He also lied on R. Kirby who TSU had expressed interest.

I don't believe her, but I also don't NOT believe her. All parties involved are varying levels of cray-cray, so who knows on that.

This is a really good way to describe it.

Also, I think it has become crystal clear that Pastner lied to everyone about his relationship with the Bells and that he 'didn't know' what Bell was up to with player and recruits.

Howdy Doody might not survive this.

This right here. The guy lies like a rug. Small lies and big lies, but almost every time you listen to him talk he is going to tell some kind of lie.. And while (like someone else pointed out) all coaches lie (all people lie) Josh lies about things he doesn't even need to lie about. It is just part of who he is.

This is the part that the 'I support the coach' crowd does not acknowledge nor want to talk about. They let others do the dirty work and then pat themselves on the back for being 'true fans' .
