Is the new one coming out supposed to suck or something? If so, they would have been better off not doing it at all
I've come to the conclusion that Hollywood has no new ideas.
Well, that's been painfully obvious for years. Even the new iteration of The Lion King is apparently rife with Nazi symbolism, patriarchal stereotypes, goose stepping varmints of one sort or another and Alllllllllllll sorts of other very dark, hidden and subliminal messaging.
If it weren't for the comic book movies, hollyweird may well have shut it's doors by now.

I don't care how cheesy it is. I will be there with my air guitar.
I just found my NAS Fightertown USA cap that I thought I had lost. I worked at the Oxygen farm and one year as a Shore Patrolman during my two week reserve dutys. That part of the movie where the F-14 is about 15 feet above the ground reminded me of the End of Tour flights by the F-4 and F-105 pilots while I was in Takhli and Korat RTAFBs. Man those jets looked beautiful as they skimmed the runway and then straight up they went while doing the twist.

Ah, brings great memories.
I can't believe they had a 14 since it has been retired, but this adds a little perspective
Quote:But the stars of the trailer are the planes. While Cruise is known for doing his own stunts—and he did indeed fly aircraft for the film—the U.S. military doesn't let citizens fly the F/A-18 so that particular piece of hardware was off limits. Personally, we're most excited about Cruise's old warhorse—the F-14 Tomcat—which makes a quick appearance even though there are very few of these (very badass) planes left outside of Iran.

The National Museum of Naval Aviation has 30 of them. All but a few used for static displays are flyable.

If you think Hollweird is bad check out British television. I've been watching The Fall on netflix with Gillian Anderson (weirdly HOT) and it's full of references to the evils of their male dominated patriarchal culture.

Yeah I'm there. Top Gun was my favorite movie as a kid. I saw it in the theater and wanted to be a pilot immediately. In third grade my aptitude tests listed my top two as pilot and farmer. My mom thought it was ironic since I had done nothing but talk about being a pilot since I saw the movie and I lived on a farm. Later that year I found out I was colorblind, naturally I still live on the farm and despite working in trucking, construction, and insurance to make a living, I put in as many hours on the farm as anywhere else.
I saw it at Rivercenter in San Antonio. They had an Imax, and a version of the film that had been adapted for Imax. It was not the 100% Imax effect, because it was an adaptation rather than a film that had been shot originally for Imax. But it was still pretty damn spectacular.
Oh, and everything that happened to Tom Cruise in the Officers Club at Miramar has happened to me in the Officers Club at Miramar.
Sounds like the Iranians executed a little tit-for-tat of their own:
Quote:Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says it seized a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it failed to follow international marine regulations.
The IRGC took the British tanker, Stena Impero, to a coastal area and turned it over to maritime authorities, according to Iran State TV.
Britain said it was urgently seeking further information after reports that a British-flagged tanker had taken a turn into Iranian waters.
“We are urgently seeking further information and assessing the situation following reports of an incident in the Gulf,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.
The move by Iran follows the seizure of an Iranian tanker earlier this month by the British Royal Marines on suspicion it was breaking European sanctions and taking oil to Syria. Iran has called for the release of that ship, and earlier Friday, a British court in Gibraltar extended the detention of the Iranian oil tanker.
